Do you have Spring "Rituals"?

It is Spring in Northern California, and I, The Horse, have started on one of my Spring Rituals. Every Spring, I sand down my balcony table and chairs and finish them with some kind of protectant. For the least couple of years, said protectant has been Watco Walnut Danish Oil. It makes solid wood look pretty and bright, and protects it against the sun and rain. I like to drag this project out over a few days even though I could do it in a couple of hours if I put my mind to it. As you can see, I started working on one of the chairs yesterday. Do you have certain Spring "Rituals" that you enjoy?

Getting the bluebird house out of the garage and put up in the garden. My favorite. And in a week or two I will out the hummingbird feeder up. Those are the two I enjoy the most. I also have cushions I put out in the screen room. The cats think they are theirs, and I guess they probably are.

Can you tell me more about the hummingbird feeder? I tried to create one, but the wasps preferred it to the hummingbirds, so I threw it out. We have hummingbirds here, and I enjoy watching them.

@TheHorse I have bought several over the years. They are very inexpensive to buy. And I make my own nectar with water and sugar. I will have to do a post about this. JJ did one today. They will attract bees and ants as well because of the sweet nectar. But there are things you can do to prevent all of that too.

@TheHorse I enjoy it when the weather is not so dreary. Today is one of those I just want to curl up in a blankie.

@wolfgirl569 I really do enjoy "getting stuff done." One of my next tasks is to throw out pounds of dusty old papers I don't need any more.

I have many Spring cleaning rituals that I do not enjoy, but that have be done. I apply Teak Sealer to our outdoor teak table and chairs and I do this in late Autumn before storing them for the winter. They are ready to use now.

@TheHorse I usually wash the table and chairs at the end of the season. Once they are clean I apply the teak sealer and put in the garden shed for the winter. It's clean there.

I usually buy some perennials to plant in flower beds and pots. When I lived in California, it was in the Sierra foothills, so it would still be a bit early for that. Mother's Day was supposed to mark the beginning of planting. I think it's too early here in North Carolina too. We are still having some frosty nights here and there.

It's been in the 60s during the day and the 40s during the night here. I have already planted some corn, green beans, tomatoes, and sunflowers.

@TheHorse It was in the 70s here today, but that's the warmest it's been. Still dropping into the 30s at night most nights.

The only thing I do this time is washing all the blankets and putting them away since the weather will be quite hot next three months and we would not be needing the quilts and blankets.

That makes sense. Since even our Summer our nights are cool, I keep my comforter on my bed, but I often don't use it in Summer.

Going on walks around my neighborhood is a spring ritual of mine. I can do walks during the winter. But it's so refreshing to do so when the spring air finally makes it's return.

blue bonnets
I don't have any Spring rituals. I just know when it's spring wherever I live. In Miami, Florida where I grew up, it rained when I wanted it to be a sunny day. In Maryland, where I lived for several years, almost everybody planted tulips in their garden. Now I'm in Texas, almost everybody takes pictures of bluebonnets. It's the state flower. The local weather reporters even ask people to send in their pictures. If they choose your photo you will see it on television.

First time in my little apartment here in the spring. I just need to spruce it up and I am done. My only spring ritual has been getting my little porch set up so that I can sit outside. Today I added to little violets in pots on the inner railings.

Not really. I open the balcony door and my window if it's nice out. Maybe I'll go for a walk. Maybe I consider on buying a flower to grow this season.

There isn't a lot of difference between our seasons really. We'll be able to light fires in May and I'll enjoy burning leaves at that point.

@TheHorse May is usually the first month when we can burn without a permit. The season lasts till perhaps October, maybe November.

Yes I clean the house, move furniture and clean under and behind, wipe down the walls or paint them. This year I am getting rid of half my stuff so I am so on that right now, 4 truck loads went today, only one was already trash. Right now we are in full pollen, everything is covered in a yellow dust, not good for working outside.
