Images on MyLot - Do You Like to See Them?

@dfollin wrote a discussion asking about whether photos increase earnings. I'm not sure it does. I suppose, indirectly, it could do if it encourages more views. It got me thinking that I don't really use images but I do have some lovely pictures. For no reason other than because I like the picture, I thought I would share this image with you. I took the picture while visiting, along with many others, while visiting one of my favourite places. That place is the English seaside town of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset. I like taking photos, especially when I get to capture some beautiful images. I think I'd like to see more pictures of mLot, and I am going to try and remember to post more images with my discussions where appropriate. I must admit that some images will put me off going to a discussion but some will draw me in. Do you enjoy taking or seeing photos? Would you like to see more on here? Does an image encourage you to visit a discussion? Do you have any lovely pictures you'd like to share? A beautiful place you've visited or an image of you doing something fun.

I like to see images that have something to do with the discussion. I see no reason to attach a photo that has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Your photo here is very nice and it makes sense. Anyway an image does not encourage me to visit a discussion.

Yes, it would be nonsense to attach an image that doesn't correspond to the discussion. As this discussion is about images in general, I could have used any!

@pumpkinjam Exactly what I thought, no matter which image would have been good with this discussion.

Certainly for me, a thumbnail next to a discussion gives a slight incentive to open the discussion, at least, to see the full-size image. That may or may not be true for others, of course, Anyway, if I can find an appropriate and relevant image to illustrate a discussion, there's no harm in adding it. A long time ago (before 2013) images did certainly earn a few fractions of a cent but, under the new system, they don't in themselves make any difference. However, if an image encourages one or two more people to look at a discussion than otherwise would have done, then it may add an extra cent or so to one's earnings.

Thank you for your insight, Mr Owl. I think you're saying more or less what I said - that having an image doesn't directly earn us anything but could lead to extra earnings through additional interaction. I do like to see pictures sometimes but I don't necessarily go to discussions purposefully because they have an image. It has occurred to me, though, that the discussions that display on the side of the page always do include pictures.

@owlwings Birnbeck Pier Trust/Friends of the Old Pier have been trying to get something done with it. I had read that owners were now on board with rebuilding but the article you linked seems to suggest otherwise. I'd love to be able to visit it properly and see it restored. Weston is a very special place to me. My partner had never been before I took him a couple of years ago. He immediately fell in love with it and wants to live there! We very much should try to meet up at some point. You're not far away at all. Certainly closer than Pikefish, who is the only myLotter I've met in real life (as far as I know). :)

@pumpkinjam Well, I'd expect that we'd agree. Even though we've never met (and that's my fault, I think, since we don't live far apart!), I've always felt that your family (you, Dory, FairyRie and Mrs Croc. - I don't know your dad but I'n sure we'd get along) and I are 'on the same wavelength'. I've been to Weston quite a number of times (my wife comes from near there) but I've never been to Birnbeck Pier, though I've seen it in the distance, of course. It's the only pier in England which links an island with the mainland and it was quite 'the thing' in its day. Sadly, it's now owned by a company who can't see their way to being able to afford to restore it (even though it's Grade II listed and on a list of Endangered Buildings). Here's an article and some very sad photos:

Sometimes I add a photo, but only if it is related to the discussion. If I write about a place I have visited I like to add a photo. That way other members can see the place I talk about instead of only reading my description. When I see the list of new discussions the title is usually more important to me than the photo. I prefer personal photos. It is more interesting to me than a photo the person has found online.

I also prefer personal photos. The discussion title will usually interest me more than a picture but it is nice to see pictures. I am going to try to add pictures I've taken if it's appropriate to the discussion.

@pumpkinjam It is a good idea to add photos if it is appropriate to the discussion. Some days ago I started a discussion about a local sculpture from my country. I think that it would have been hard to understand what I was talking about without a photo.

New Years Eve
I like seeing photos but I prefer seeing pictures that the poster has taken herself/himself rather than something from pixabay etc In your picture, is that a pier with an island at the end? Added one of my pictures from New Years Eve, as most of my other shots are at my other computer

Wow, that is a great shot. I also prefer personal photos. Yes, my image is Birnbeck Pier, which is the only pier in England that links the mainland to an island. The pier has been closed for over 20 years because of it having been left derelict. There is a group that has been trying to get it repaired but had difficulty in finding owners and getting anything done. It was purchased 5 years ago and, although work has not yet started, the owners and the local council are all on board with making plans for it.

@pumpkinjam That's interesting! I've seen quite a few piers in England, I think they look great, but as it's the only one of it's kind I really hope they repair this one. I read somewhere that there's lot of derelict piers.

@pumpkinjam Yes, I like taking photos. I do not know if they help me earn more or not. I have not seen your posts before.

I've been here 13 years, and been active for much of that time. Still, we don't always get to see everyone. It's very rare that I include a photo but I will be doing so in more of my discussions from now on. :)

I always like to put images on my postings. I just do; and I look forward to everyone else's pictures. No, it makes no difference whether or not they have a pic as to whether or not I will visit that post. It's usually one of the people I'm following. I have some lovely FL Keys photos.

I often forget that we can include images! It doesn't usually make a difference to me either. I'll go to discussions of people I'm following and I'll always have a look at New User and unanswered discussions as well as people I follow, regardless there is an image or not. I do enjoy some pictures, though. Some of yours are lovely.

I think an image can focus one's attention on the post topic. I use it as an introduction to what I will be talking about.

I think images can work well as an introduction. I'm sure some images encourage people to visit discussions that they may not otherwise visit.
