working in hotels as long as i have,it takes a lot to phase me anymore..between people lying to get comps, and just stupid things people think they can get away with.
"rock star life?" well,to be honest,95% of the musicians we'd ever had in the various i've worked at were no problem whatsoever..except santana's 2nd guitarist..but that's another story..
anyway..9 times out of 10,it's families that wreck the place.oh how i hate summer vacation.one of the worst of all is what i call "the queen mother".
this is a woman with an overhyper brood of 3 to 6 kids, all running free range because she hasn't seen daylight since they were born.and she has an attitude with the staff because she can.
we had a family yesterday and today with two kids-running everywhere, even in other people's rooms if they left the door open..they tore up the breakfast room, ate like pigs, then went back to their room.
i had to clean the one underneath theirs, and i told my boss i wouldn't rent it.you could hear the lil b*stard jumping on and off the loft's ship ladder upstairs, and screaming.they practically had to be evicted today,as they of course were overstaying checkout time.
last year an 8 year old ripped a banister rail off the wall sliding his chunky butt down it.others draw on the walls..
you have to wonder if these people forget we have a credit card on file.
unless it's stolen anyway..or someone else's they borrowed.
if i ever messed a place up like that as a kid,i would have been meat.dad would have killed me.
the ironic thing is my current inn doesn't allow animals..maybe they should rethink that one.i'd ban kids.

That is appalling, but I'm not surprised. These are the same sort of people who will go on holiday then - after they have gone home again - complain about the hotel they stayed in and do everything they can to get compensation for bad service, food poisoning, or whatever!

I've travelled with children (I have five, now grown) and take offense at you lumping all families together because of some irresponsible parenting.
We would rent one room (I know, technically we need two rooms, but that was both expensive and impractical) Three of the children would sleep on the floor. We left our room tidy. The children NEVER were permitted to run up and down the hallways. We didn't send unaccompanied children to the pool area (we did make use of the pool....that was a good way of burning off some energy). We did use the included breakfast but again, the children were monitored.
I know many other families that travelled in a similar way and I don't think there were ever complaints made about us.

My daughter-in-law works front desk. Right now there is so much local construction everything is booked for the next two months. Most of them are good, once in a while a bad egg comes along, but usually their supervisors are around or someone who has to report to the supervisor. Corporate forgets to turn off the links in Expedia and similar services and they get double booked and she has to deal with that mess. It is not an easy job whatever part of it you are doing.

Sadly I see this at grocery stores too
. It seems like parents these days don't discipline their kids they way our parents used to . . . my parents would smack me if I behaved like that (the thing is I knew better than to be like that). I sure won't allow my kids to do that . . . sure we're on vacation but that doesn't give us the right to do whatever the heck we want just because we paid for the room. Not cool to be destructive - ever.

Yes, absolutely. People complain about children but sometimes seem to forget that children are the product of their parents. If children are messing about while the parents are there, those same parents are probably still going to be trouble-makers even if they go somewhere without their children.

Thankfully some parents teach their kids manners, I would have been in so much trouble if I behaved like that’s!

@scarlet_woman I don't get that at all. I've been called a 'liberal parent' and my children are absolutely free to express themselves. They still have manners and they'd still be in trouble if they ran around wrecking things.

it sure doesn't seem like they teach manners anymore.i guess that would not be "letting them express themselves"..

@scarlet_woman I’m blessed that my nieces are both well mannered but I’ve seen kids who acted like that, it certainly shows how important discipline is! I work with preschoolers at my Church who don’t act that way, if we’d behaved that way as a kid I’d be on the receiving end of a belt!

Whenever I have taken my children anywhere, I've always been complimented on how well-behaved they are. That's great, of course, but I do think it's a shame that it's noteworthy.
Saying that, most places I've stayed have been no problem at all. Of course, you'll have a child or two who is clearly over-excited and that's understandable. Perhaps I've been lucky or I've just avoided 'family' places! I do believe that it is a minority of people who cause trouble. It's unfortunate, though, that they are the people who make the most noise. It gives other families a bad name too. It causes stereotyping and leads to exactly why it's so difficult for a decent family to find a nice place to stay.
My friend was staying in her parents' caravan. She said that police were called to a nearby hotel, and she was told that it was a regular occurrence. The same hotel had its roof collapse on guest not long ago. It's had some dreadful reviews that have included dirty rooms - not just needing a bit of a wipe down but having human faeces in the beds and infestations of insects. Now, while having the police called is going to be due to problems with the guests, it's the hotel's fault that they haven't cleaned it properly. It's not really surprising that they attract the 'wrong sort' if they have such a low standard. Nobody seems to be able to understand how the place has not shut down!
I'm all for children being banned from some hotels. I don't want to go anywhere that allows animals either. What would be nice is if hotels could 'vet' their guests before they booked. Or, maybe, like people can review places, there should be something where you can review guests. Perhaps, that way, nice places will welcome good guests (whether couples or families or whatever) and the horrible/noisy/dirty guests can go to all the crowded and boring places!
I'm pretty sure if I ever behaved the way some children do, I'd never be taken anywhere again! With my own children, I'd have removed them from the situation until they calmed down. And I'd have made sure they understood why I'd done it and how they were expected to behave. Well, I expect that's what I would have done.

Some people have no common courtesy. They only think of themselves.

OMG! I had a cousin that owned a Christian retreat in Florida, the stories she told about those children that came in by the bus full. Others about adults using the dressers as toilets.
People are nasty and yes! they let their kids run wild.
Me and you both, my dad would yank us up and bust out butts right there in front of people, if we ran wild in a public place.

I know a few families like that.
I recall visits from our friend with his three boys.
They used to be spoilt brats, jumping up and down our sofa, but their parents looked the other way!
And I also know a few who wilfully spoil what is not their own - siva

It is disgraceful how some parents bring up their kids. They don't seem to have a clue about other folk's property and respect. We just have to be sure our kids are taught better.

I feel good that I am firm with my children when it comes to teaching manners. I have taught them to respect people and help around. They are very courteous, polite and caring for my domestic help.
