Quaint sayings in Doha, Qatar

While we and our six friends were in Doha, Qatar, we hired a mini-bus and driver to take us on a guided tour of the city. The guide was Egyptian but mostly had very good English. However, we did have to smile at his pronunciation of ‘European’ which he pronounced as ‘U-rop-ian’ with the emphasis on ‘rop’.
His other quaint saying, when pointing out something of interest, was ‘on the right-side hand’ whereas we would have said ‘on the right-hand side’. We’ve now adopted this saying for ourselves.
Doha doesn’t do anything by halves. Do you like the photo of Doha after dark? It’s actually a model of the city but isn’t it realistic? The detail is incredible too.

@crazyhorseladycx I think that's very true. I brushed up on my French before we left but I've forgotten the little bit of German I used to know.

@JudyEv I know they took us to the plane on a bus with armchairs and sofas on it. Stunning service!

@garymarsh6 That must have been business class. We didn't get that. I'm totally jealous.

@Marilynda1225 We are indeed. I hope we manage to do a bit more before it all gets too much for us.

I thought those buildings in the photo looked too perfect to be real! It is a great model though! Very realistic, and lots of detail.

@moffittjc The parts we could see certainly looked pretty spectacular but where there were no buildings, the ground was barren and bare.

Is it a model of Doha ! It is true to nature! I have difficulty understanding spoken English,I would be at a loss ,if I run across such an English speaker as the driver.

This model is actually so realistic!
We hear so many different pronunciation and sayings across the world. As long as it conveys the message, it's okay.

We are having trouble understanding some of the Irish people in this region.
