How are we ever going to survive ? Any of us ?

I just read a friends post on FB showing how much a 2 bedroom apartment was in their state. $ 1800.00 a month. We pay $ 800.00 a month and probably would have starved if not for friends help so far. and this is in a bad neighborhood in an old dump of a house that has not been kept up to even a safety level. I never worried so much back when I was younger. I could always cut corners with myself to feed the kids, etc. I was able to go work or borrow or exchange things with friends or share in order to get by. On another note, I had to call my doctor again today cause she actually called me in an antibiotic that I can not take. It clearly states that people taking my kind of blood pressure medicine can not take it. She actually said " Let me get back to you. I will see if you can take it anyway" Wonder why they can't help me before it's too late. With me it's like they let one thing go so long that it leads to another problem . Then give me something that leads to another problem. Almost makes you wonder why bother with a doctor at all. Right? They take your little bit of money you dearly need to eat on. Then are no help at all. I have to go now a bit. Not feeling well of course. Be back later to post more or do some catch up on here.

Do you have a publix grocery store, you should being in Florida, most all of their antibiotics are free, many diabetes and high blood pressure meds too. Rent is higher in Florida, here for $600 a month you can get a very nice house. I would have never paid $800 a month for a dump.

@moffittjc and to me I hate it. stuck here and never see sunshine. mostly it's been rain. they should call it the rainy state. Most don't really live here they go back home to a cool state in summer.

I was thinking the same thing Andria. Public might be a good no-cost or low-cost option. I agree housing costs in Florida are ridiculous. I guess that's what happens when 20 million people decide to take up residency in the Sunshine State.

Some US states are very expensive, I am not surprised that in some places a 2 bedroom apartment costs $ 1,800 a month. Your doctor should pay more attention, it's not up to you to catch those errors.

Yes, in many areas the cost of housing is really high. My daughter lives in the Chicagoland area. She pays about as much for her 2 bedroom apartment as my wife and I pay for our whole house and yard. So much of what they pay is covering the cost of taxes too. That is the worse part.

@bunnybon7 Not with monthly expenses. We have raised our kids to make decisions and enjoy the benefits but also face the consequences. Of course we would never let them be homeless or anything, and yes we have helped them unforeseen things that came up. However, I don't think it's a good idea to bail our adult kids out. It is good for new couples to struggle through things and grow together. They are both done with college now, it is great to see them figure out their lives together.

Where I live, and in my neighborhood, house rent can be very expensive. Fortunately, this house is mine. I have thought about renting a room, but my daughters decided to pay for whatever I need when I have no more money. You say you have children. Can´t they all send a bit?

@marguicha I really haven't wanted to but I even more do not want to be in a nursing home here. Most are bad here unless you are rich and go to a posh high end one.

@bunnybon7 In my country there is a law that children have to take care of their parents up to a certain point. But I wouldn´t take advantage of that.

Rent and housing prices are nuts here in our part of CA. I am told here it is easily at least $2200 and more for a 2 bdrm now. I hope you feel better soon!!

thanks. Oh my and I thought it was bad here. I lived in Concord back in my early 40's with my bf and youngest son there and had 2 jobs plus my bf had a long hours job trying to keep our 2 bedroom apt. Even then it wasn't easy.

@bunnybon7 Oh yah, it's crazy high here - from taxes to insurance to everything else. I should have mentioned that rent price was for a 2 bedroom apartment - not even a house. The house down the street from us is going for 3000 - which is silly for this neighborhood . . . it has not been rented out since the owners bought it months ago. It's an empty house, so their mortgage is wasted.

That's expensive rent. Yours seems to be the equivalent of the low side of average over here. I've been looking at renting elsewhere. I'm currently renting a council (social housing) place so the rent is really cheap. It would work out a little over $400 per month, I think. Renting anywhere else, though, is often twice as much or more. If we were to rent in the private sector, it would cost at least 2/3 of my monthly wage. Then there are all the fees and other costs involved in moving before you even get to sign a tenancy! I wonder how and if we will ever afford to move and retire to the sea side as planned!

@bunnybon7 I'm not unhappy here. There are just a lot of reasons we'd be better somewhere else. The home we live in doesn't meet our needs but, apart from that, we love being by the sea and we live nowhere near it!

I have appealed as much as I can. and just keep trying. It's all we can do I guess. Daughter is also constantly working on it. But it's hard to fight the rich owners of these places. They know better how to get by with all this having done it many times to get as rich as they are.

Rent and housing are not that expensive here in Missouri, Bonnie. When I owned a four bedroom house I paid $425 a month. Right now, I am paying $375 a month for a two bedroom duplex for Pretty and I to live in. May I ask how long you've been seeing your present doctor? She should have known that the meds she wanted you to take shouldn't be taken with another med she prescribed to you. Hon, how often do you see one of your children? Do they live close to you? (Please don't answer anything I've ask you here. It isn't my business or the business of anyone else on myLot. If you do answer, send me an email or text me, please. I am worrying about you now.)

its okay. I don't have your e-mail or number. I could private message you but I don't like how this one works. I do better pm on FB but then I don't have you there either yes the nurse practitioner they usually send me should have known but she often seems clueless why I don;t really much trust her. I usually go with my instinct and read up on things. one thing though last time I was sent a regular doc that seems to be up on it all. He seems to be going to help more

@DianneN I see. Glad others are not like that or I would really be up the creek. Besides some were very helpful without donating any money or things because they could not afford it. II appreciate them just as much though because they shared my plight with their friends online and that helped me also.
