The Healthy Guyabano/Soursop Tea is Not for my Health

Soursop tea

Yes. I have just discovered it. An hour ago, I drunk my Guyabano tea powder for the 1st time in my life. I bought this pack of tea before I left my home country Philippines. I heard a lot of the health benefits from drinking this tea. I was searching in my kitchen cupboard for another kind of tea for me to drink after my lunch. While drinking my mug of this tea, I was reading about soursop tea powder online. Then suddenly, I felt that my mouth and my throat were getting so dry. My mouth started to feel numb that I kept on pinching it. I felt that my eyes are getting smaller and my neck and head are getting heavy. All these signs are not foreign to me. Just on time, my hubby came in the living room and I told him what was happening. "You have to drink coffee", he said. I know he hates the smell of coffee but he knows this would be a remedy. I think my blood pressure was getting low. I made coffee and drunk it. I feel a bit better now. After what happened, I googled the side effects of the soursop tea. It is not good for person with anemia. That's good to know. So, you see. I am health conscious but not all healthy food and teas are good for my health. Have you drunk soursop tea before?

@thelme55 Can you try to go to the hospital for a check-up so that they can do something?

@thelme55 Call your doctor and talk to them. See if you should take some diphenhydramine, or come in to be checked out. You had an extreme allergic reaction. I wonder if you were to have put a drop or two on your inner arm if you would have had a rash. Oat straw tea is a very pleasant tea that helps build your blood, very mild tasting.

The tea and the fruit can cause symptoms resembling Parkinson's Disease, Shavkat. The cancer fighting properties claimed for that fruit have not been studied. (You should read all the things people claim this fruit/plant are good for! It reminds me of snake oil salesmen trying to sell their "product" to the people of the frontier in the United States. Many claims but no proof and in some cases, the after effects are deadly!)

I have never had it, but have read about it. To me it sounded as if you were experiencing anaphylactic shock, very dangerous. It is a severe allergic reaction that will close your airways. Yes, caffeine is a good home remedy. Epinepherine is a shot they give at the hospital, or people get a prescription "epi pen" for home. Also taking benadryl (diphenhydramine) is helpful for after effects.

Yes, I think I was allergic to it. I wonder now, when I was in the Philippines, I ate the fresh fruit of Guyabano but I was not sick. Maybe there was something in this powder tea that I am allergic to. Thank you @GardenGerty. I will think about this medicine when ever something like this happen. I hope not. This was the second time that I have allergic reaction to a drink. The first time when I drunk Red Bull.

Oh, my! That tea can be dangerous to some people! It can cause problems resembling Parkinson's Disease and is considered toxic! I am confused! How is drinking this considered health conscious?

@andriaperry Which still contain the basic ingredients of the fruit/leaves. None of them are good for you! (There is some risk even in eating the fruit. In moderation, the fruit is safe enough, but I wouldn't risk even that!)

I haven' t heard nor seen that kind of tea before. Though, I know that soursop has its very healthy benefits and that no. 1 is for treating cancer. I think, it will not be good for me, since I think I am a bit anemic. That's because I always lack sleep.

@thelme55 Oh , is that so. People here are so in belief that the boiled 40 leaves of guyabano in a liter I think of water , is so good in treating their cancers.

Scientifically, it is not verified that soursop or guyabano can treat cancer @SIMPLYD. If you are anemic, donĀ“t drink this tea. I bought this tea in Robinson and I am sure that you can find it there in the city where you live.

@SIMPLYD I think the people should research first not only about the health benefits but also the side effects of taking this tea. I should have read the side effects first before drinking this tea. I could have save myself from the side effects.

@thelme55 perhaps it is the fruit known by the name 'cancer fruit' in India though it`s not common . Even I had ordered the fruit online once as it is never noticed being sold in the market , but it was very solid from the inside . Most likely it was raw or it was not ripe . I am not sure of the tea but this is my story with the fruit and thanks for spreading the word on ill effects ....
