I miss riding my bicycle. I keep one in Florida, because it’s nice and flat there and easy to ride. My granddaughter received a new bicycle from her parents for her birthday last Tuesday. She’s been riding a bike since she was a toddler. She didn’t have school on her birthday due to teacher workshops, so she and her mother rode their bikes along the Hudson River on the bike/jogging paths to the George Washington Bridge. It was over a 13 mile ride. She only fell off her bike once, , stopped to put her tootsies in the river, picked mulberries, and played with goats used by the city of New York to eat poison ivy. (Live and learn.) Do you ride a bike?

I haven't in years but when I was young I road everywhere. We loved to ride our bikes and we lived on a quiet street in a rather quiet town. Your granddaughter is a real beauty. Wonder where she got those genes??? lol

When I was a youngster, I rode my bike everywhere. Then, when my kids were old enough, I bought a bike so I could ride with them. I no longer ride.

You camp instead. . I’ve seen so many campers with bikes hooked up. To be honest, I only started riding a bike in Florida after years of not riding.

Not for many years. I heard about this once before that goats eat poison ivy. Obviously they are immune to it. I'd like to play with goats! lol

I loved riding! Was a fun way to get some exercise too. I had to share a bike with my siblings and really wanted one of my own. Saved all of my babysitting money and bought a purple Schwinn. Was my pride and joy. Little Miss has a Paw Patrol bike. Dadda works with her to learn to ride it. Her mother tries to get her to do it as well. She prefers to be pushed around on it. Doesn't want to put out the effort it takes to pedal. LOL. Hoping one day she will get the knack of it.

@DianneN She really doesn't seem interested at the moment. I try to encourage her to ride but she flat out says "no." Or asks if Dadda can push her. LOL.

I used to do over 30 miles a day. Then one day I was riding in my town on a fairly busy road. I saw a huge hole but also heard a car coming up behind me so I couldn't swerve out of the way. I hit it and popped the tube. Had to walk a mile and a half home. I've been afraid to ride long distances since then. I don't know how to change the tube. If I was 18 miles in somewhere and I had an issue I would be totally screwed.

@DianneN This is not my bike. In the parking lot near the lake when a car is left, you can take 4 bikes (per car) and drive the whole dayMy bell was broken and then I kept telling my husband to ring Next time I will take a bicycle with a bell and with a basket (there are also such) that was my first time, now I know for next time

I use to like riding bikes until 5 years ago, when I had a pretty bad fall and scraped my knee, my chin, and had a pain kind of near the rib cage. After that, I told my husband, "this is the end of my bike riding days". It is sad because I remember as a small kid, being so happy when I finally could ride my bike without training wheels. I also took such dares on it, like riding through my yard with my hands up in the air.

I’m so sorry that you got hurt like that. I was a daredevil like you as a kid, but am very, very cautious when I ride my bike now. I’ve seen too many people get hit by cars and someone who really banged up his head avoiding a dog.

I got my first and only bike when I was 10 and rode it everywhere through high school. That was quite a trek - 13 miles - for her and her mother to ride. She had quite the trek with mulberry picking and playing with goats. Not to miss her sticking her tootsies in the river. I didn't know goats ate poison ivy. Good to know.

I got my first two wheeler at 10 once the training wheels came off.. She outgrew her other bike. Mom and dad ride along the river to the bridge together when the kids are in camp. She had a wonderful birthday, especially seeing the goats eating poison ivy. Who knew?

@DianneN I never had training wheels. I begged my parents for five years for a bike and finally got it for my birthday and promptly broke my arm and had to wait another 6 weeks before I could ride it. Now we know what to do about poison ivy. Get a goat.

@DianneN She really is in shape. I used to ride a bike when I was young and brought my bike here to Israel but gave it away. I have not been on a bike in a long time. I wanted to buy myself a bike but when sat on it froze and thought I have a cat at home and need to be here for her so was afraid to fall off and never rode a bike again.

@DianneN We have a very few here. And the one that we have is too far. So to beat the traffic, we have to really start early. And the traffic on way back really spoils all the fun.
