How to keep cool in very hot weather?

In many parts of the earth the summer heat is on and we need to find ways to stay cool and endure the hot weather.
What do you do?

Here are some tips that some use:
* Get an air conditioner if you are able to and it doesn't bother you
* Make sure you drink enough water
* Eat light foods like fruits and vegetables
* Wash you face with cool water as often as you need it

When it gets unbearably hot I just stay inside in the a/c. I do eat lighter meals and drink plenty of water.

I think those are all excellent ways with dealing with extreme hot weather. I hope your summer won't be too extreme but good to see that you know what to do.

I can take an AC for a while but not for too long. I bought one once but after a few days I disconnected it and gave it away. I wasn't comfortable with it.

I'm allergic to coffee and so I do not have much choice there. Others who use coffee will benefit from that tip.

Yes, I have seen people do that. I also saw my father doing something like that and he lived to be past 100.

Good for you! I drink 4 glasses of water every day and sometimes more if I need it. I'm drinking some water right now as it is a very hot day.

@ShifaLk Good! The reason I don't drink more is that I eat a lot of fresh fruits which have a lot of liquid.

Yes, drinking plenty of water will keep us from getting sick and worse.
Churu in Rajasthan has turned out to as be the hottest city in India with its maximum temperature settling at 44.3° C.

@buenavida - If it gets really hot, it can help to have a spray bottle with water and use it when needed -I have found it helpful..

The only thing that works for me is freezing water.
I jump in and out of showers.
Cold ones.
But that is a blessing to have water.

I have seen the sad news on the summer heat situation in Europe, especially France. In fact, that's what made me start this discussion to remind people to especially drink enough water so that they don't become dehydrated.
The new record, equivalent to 114.6F, was measured in southern France amid a Europe-wide heatwave.

@1hopefulman It is really horrible here in Europe and air conditioning is not a lot used, here in Switzerland almost nobody has air conditioning. I have closed all the shutters and all the double glass windows, at least the heat does not come inside.

I already know what. When I have to work I have A/C in one room and a fan blowing on me in the other. When I go out I have a beach chair with an umbrella which I put at the water's edge at the beach and sit there while the waves wash over my feet. That song just got me hotter.

That is all good except for the ice cream. While it tastes good, I have read that it is not helpful in keeping cool as the body has to digest that and it causes the body to heat up. If it helps you, enjoy it!

Keeping oneself well hydrated is very important. You have mentioned all that one can do to beat this heat. Staying Indoors if you can is safe to avoid heat stroke.

Yes, drinking plenty of water is very important. Most people drink sugary drinks or juices which are not that good. Yes, when it is very hot it is good to stay in a cool place. Have a great summer!

Staying hydrated is extremely important and staying indoors when temps/humidity are oppressive. A dip in the ocean or cold shower also helps
