The days when poppies still bloomed every few years on the east slopes of Mount Franklin. I thought I'd have many more opportunities to take these kinds of shots but they don't bloom anymore, either the seeds were all eaten or the weather hasn't been right. Either way in the last 15 years there haven't been many poppies that would bloom. Well, those were the days. Hey, have you heard this song before?

Yeah, it's sad but it's typical desert actually. I don't recall seeing them when I was growing up though, mom once told me that the Army dumped a lot of poppy seeds on the side of the mountain one year and I think a lot of it was eaten by field mice and insects. I would love to try to get them to grow on my lot I've had no success as of yet.

I know the song well but how sad that the poppies no longer bloom there. I do hope that one day everything will gel and the slopes will be covered again. What a sight it must have been.

I'm sure they did but there's a museum around there and it has cameras situated around the premises to make sure no one messes with the local flora @JudyEv there are some species of plants around there that are endangered

The last time they bloomed was in 2003 but they weren't as showy as the ones in those photos.
