Picking up my guitar this afternoon. Please send prayers to the Guitar Gods.

For those who don't know the story, I took my Martin D-18 dreadnought guitar to a licensed Martin repair guy (James) at Eric Schoenberg's guitar store in Tiburon a couple of weeks ago for some minor cosmetic work. When I went to pick up the guitar, it looked WORSE than when I had brought it in. I left the guitar there for him to "finish the job," and then changed my mind and called, asking that they send the guitar to Martin for the final touch up work. I didn't mind being without the Martin guitar for two to four months as I have a Larrivee D-03 dreadnought that's a perfectly good guitar. But James said that he had already touched up his sloppy repir work, and that the guitar was ready for pick-up. I'm heading over there now, with some degree of apprehension. I'll make an afternoon of it, win or lose, and have fish and chips at a restaurant on the water there. Tiburon is a lovely and quaint town. I'll attach a picture of Eric's small guitar shop that I took when I brought the guitar in. Please send prayers to the Guitar Gods for me. This was (when I bought it) a beautiful instrument.

Sending prayers to Guitar God. It must have been tough staying away from your baby for so long. I am sure that your baby will be fit and fine waiting for you.

I hope that the one who did the work knew better what to do, now it's a bit late to pray the Guitar Gods.

@TheHorse I think that the old Gods of music use other instruments. At least this is what mythology shows us (Lyre, Flute and so on).

Eh, they're probably busy with fancier guitars anyway.

@crazyhorseladycx I didn't make it there. As I was heading out, I heard (on the radio) that all of the routes were blocked by traffic accidents. I opted for a sushi lunch and a Giants baseball game. I brought my glove and got a batting practice baseball! Made me feel like a kid again.

I spent $150 and wound up with a guitar that looks 80% as good as when I brought it in. But it still sounds great.

PLEASE let us know how it turned out. Anyone who'd do such a terrible thing to an instrument should be locked up and forced to listen to autotune!

I didn't make it there, as there were traffic accidents on both of the routes I take to get there. I may try again tomorrow. That "luthier" should be forced to listen to listen to Taylor Swift in a cell for 24 hours, given the "mental anguish" he has caused me.

OH my goodness how can they do such a sloppy repair and attempt to get away with it. I would not have been very happy with them trying to palm you off with such an inferior standard. I am sure that you let him know in no uncertain terms. FIngers crossed.

I let them know very quietly. But they knew. I brought the guitar home today. I will write a post with the details. It was an interesting experience.

I had learned to play the guitar so many years ago, but stopped. I don't want to hurt my finger with the strings; but sometimes, I still play.
