The doorbell rang but there was no one there

A few hours ago I heard the doorbell ring. This time I actually went to open the door. And I did it right away.
When I got downstairs and opened the door there was no one there. I looked left and right to see if there was anyone around. Maybe they rang the bell and walked away.
I saw no sign of a person anywhere. What the heck? I was certainly not hearing things. The doorbell did in fact ring. Could the doorbell possibly ring without anyone pressing it? Or could an insect landing on it or some small creature (salamander, etc.) crawling press the button?

Oh strange and scary! If I was you, I would have imagined some super natural powers had taken a chance and playing with me. That's good that you're so bold and you guess it could be those insects. LOL

Maybe put some CCTV on your door to see if there is a prank trying to scare you there. If it still happens and your CCTV did not catch anything on there then it really is creepy that your doorbell would ring without no one triggering it. Or you can have it check out if the wiring are shorted or something may be triggering it from the insides like rusted wrings that connect turns it on and ring.

It was slightly creepy. It was way more creepy when someone was ringing the bell many times and banging on the door. That happened recently. But in that case I didn't go to check who it was.
