i stared at it and could not remember the name

i was listing down all the errands, places and things i needed to do, go to and buy before going out. one of them was to the shoes and bag repair shop. gosh, i could not remember the name of the black strip that i wanted him to sew on my waterproof reusable bag so that it would close. when i got there and told him, he said, "oh, velcro!" can't believe i forgot that! hahaha! "it's also called magic tape," he added. really? i've never heard or read velcro ever called that. by the way, wikipedia says the inventor of the velcro, George de Mestral, was also the one who coined that name from "the French words velour ("velvet") and crochet ("hook")." have you read or heard of other names for velcro? the shoes in the picture have straps with velcro instead of shoelaces. do you have shoes with velcro, or still prefer tying shoelaces?

Yes, I know about velcro, George de Mestral was a Swiss electrical engineer, I know the story of velcro, how he got the idea and the origin of the name. Velcro is better than shoelaces for kids.

I miss Velcro shoes! I had a pair back in 6th grade. Isn't magic tape that translucent tape that 3M makes?

@jobelbojel yup! they're just as good, too, will give you suggestions and alternatives, and you can get it the next day since they don't have that many customers.

Magic tape? I think of Scotch tape (the clear tape) - as on the box it says Magic Tape. I don't see too many adult shoes with velcro here . . . that seems to be mostly for little kids. I know many parents who get disappointed when they can no longer find velcro shoes in their kids' sizes, especially for boys. I try to get shoes with no velcro and no laces .

I did not know that about velcro, interesting. I prefer slip on shoes with neither shoelaces nor velcro.

My grandchildren had sneakers with Velcro before they learned how to tie their laces. I only use the word Velcro. Don't feel bad. I forget words, too.

A lot of shoes now seem to have velcro fastenings. They are great for little children too.

yes, it's that black strip that makes a noise. you press both sides together to close, then separate to open.

some bags also have velcro, instead of zippers, buttons, strings, clips or snaps. i think shoes with velcro tend to be sneakers or sandals.

I know velcro and yes I have heard of magic tape since I was a kid. I have a slipper from the brand FitFlop that has a velcro, but I can't seem to recall any of my shoes having velcro.
