Does anyone else look forward to coming home after a vacation?

I think I look forward to coming back more than going. I find the whole going away thing, trying to remember whether I have packed everything, sticking to time schedules etc. quite stressful. It's not that I don't enjoy being on vacation, I think it's good to get away from daily routine but oh, the thought of sleeping in my own comfy bed again has me more excited than I can say. I guess I'll never really be into travelling because I'm a home bird.

When I was younger, I never wanted to return home. Now that I am old, I look forward to coming home.

I'm quite old so perhaps it's an age thing

@porwest We get on really well now. Although the ending was a bit stressful we eventually became friends for the sake of our daughter but I know it's a big ask.

No harm in asking" @sprite1950 Nah. You never know. Maybe he still has a bit of a heart and says, sure...why not?

I was excited before leaving, I liked the first few days, but then I felt the need to come back home. I am glad we do not go away vacationing anymore.

I usually go to keep my granddaughter happy but if it was just me I would rather go for day trips.

I do like coming home but not in the same way that other people seem to. I'm quite happy to sleep elsewhere as long as I'm comfortable! I must say, though, that I do get stressed over making sure we've got everything. It's not been too bad since I've only ever been away in the UK, and, since the first holiday I had with both of my sons, I've always driven to our destination. I've always known I can pop to a nearby shop if I've forgotten anything. On Friday this week, I am off on holiday to Majorca. I'm far more stressed about packing and ensuring we have everything. I told my eldest son that I was worried about panicking. He said I'll be fine. I also realised that, not only is it mine and my youngest son's first holiday abroad, it's also the first time I've taken the boys away without another proper grown-up (I say 'proper grown-up because my eldest son is 19 so, technically, a grown-up but he's my baby). I love travelling. I love going on trains. I love being in different places. It's the uncertainty, lack of control, and change that I find difficult!

@sprite1950 Yes, everything is fine when we get there... until it's time to panic about making sure we have everything ready to come home I think I've only ever left two things behind - my eldest son's sippy cup somewhere near Telford, and my youngest son's plastic bed sheet was abandoned at a Travelodge in Tadcaster! I never really had holidays when I was younger. We did have some day trips. I don't mind day trips but I like to give my sons the holiday experiences that I didn't have. Apart from that, we have to work around my partner whose health makes it difficult to travel. It means we can't have a day trip out too far as he needs time to recover from the journey! He's not coming to Majorca with us. It's too hot for him. We're honeymooning in Weston-super-Mare in October!

@pumpkinjam Weston-super-Mare is just an hour's drive for me, straight down the M4. Which part of England are you from? So you are getting married? How lovely, I'm sure you will enjoy it there, the tide is known for going out a long way but I used to take my kids there when they were young and they loved it. I'm sorry to hear of your partner's health. I have a partner too but his health is good, like my own, we are both very lucky although I tend to wilt in the heat!

I know exactly what you mean. I'm older so always holiday in the UK now although I used to travel when I was younger. I think the run up to the holiday is the worst part, that's the bit that always gets me stressed. Once I'm there I'm fine and just get on with it. I have custody of my 12 (soon to be 13) year old granddaughter and I like to make sure she has at least one holiday in the summer. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't mind just going for day trips to the coast. I like to be home at the end of the day.

I think I'm more of a home bird especially as I get older. Does your mum travel now? I think you said she is around my age.

@nela13 I am 69 in November. I think as we get older we like to live a quieter life and leave the travelling to you youngsters!

@sprite1950 Not very much, she likes to stay at home, last year she went to Mozambique and Germany but this year she only travelled to Spain and only for 3 days. She is 69 now.

Oh. I do. One thing about vacations is that they ARE fun and they are mostly relaxing, but after a while even a vacation is going to just become the norm, and then it's not a vacation anymore.

I am usually so busy on a vacation, that's where my fatigue comes in. THAT being said, I DO olve a staycation. In other words, just take a little time off and stay home and do my own thing. That is HIGHLY pleasing as well for me.

Sometimes. But not before starting my vacation, first I want to enjoy it as much as I can . But after a while, home seems better .

I much prefer to be at home even if I like the thought of going on vacation when it's a year away! It's when it looms close I start to get stressed.

@Kasjnak I think that's the sign of a happy life. If you were unhappy in your life you wouldn't want to come back to it.

@sprite1950 well, I try to enjoy my time, no matter where I am and I also enjoy going in a vacation. But after a while I need to get back home, that's where I feel at peace. And then I'm planning the next vacation .

Mine is different, when I’m here in the house, I longed to be in the Hospital and stayed for like a week, then after spending a week in the Hospital, I longed to go home right away, and the situation is on and on. Lol

@sprite1950 It’s like I feel okay rather than staying here in the house. Lol Maybe because I get used to Hospital’s scent already.

When I was away on vacation in Florida during the winter I was in no rush to get back home since I dislike winter weather. I do agree the packing to go and come home from vacation is stressful, trying to remember what to pack, airports, the travel back home, things like that. And yes nothing will take the place of the comfort of your own home.

Yes that's exactly it. Home is where the heart is and no matter how much we enjoy taking break it's always good to come back.

i love packing and being excited about going somewhere and i like being somewhere else because i can do so many different things, experience new things and meet new people and the environment is different and people are different and sometimes i even feel sad when i'm about to go home and my usual routine.

I used to be like that but since I've grown older I have become more private and like to be home more than I ever did when I was young. I just wanted to be out and about then.
