Ever gone cold turkey?

I'm not sure if this is a global expression or mostly American, but my husband and I have gone cold turkey, starting today. If you're not familiar with the expression, it means to give up something addicting right then, all at once. If you're wondering what we are giving up, it's not what probably first comes to mind. It's sweets. Sugar. Carbs. Candy. My beloved jelly beans. We've both done well losing some weight, but we are such sugarholics that the scale was starting to inch back up. And neither of us is the kind who can eat one little Hershey's Kiss and be done with it until tomorrow. It's either all or nothing. No self control. I really secretly resent people who can do that. So, I've packed up the jelly beans, the Reese's Cups, and the PayDays, along with some coconut cookies I baked that were really delicious and they're all in a bag for my grandson to take home for him and his daddy or I'll give it to a cousin who loves sweets even more than we do. Was that a run-on sentence? Sorry. The closest thing we have in the house now are Outshine Peach fruit bars (only 60 calories and have real fruit and fruit juice) and a box of chocolate covered ice cream bars. I guess we haven't exactly gone totally cold turkey. Maybe more like slightly chilled chicken.

I wish you the absolute best with it. Ask Jesus for help, He will. =) He took my smoking addiction away almost 2 years ago now.

Smoking is a very terrible addiction. When my husband got saved many years ago, he said the smoking was the hardest, but with Jesus' help, he was able to quit. I'm glad you did, too.

I hope that it works. Try to keep some quick edibles on hand for when you get a craving. Just the good stuff though, carrots, celery, devilled eggs, you know what I'm referring to.

I love Outshine bars, the watermelon is delicious, the mango and peach as well. They are one of my snacks of choice. I did quit smoking cold turkey over 25 years ago.

Yes I have once with diet cokes, for over a year I was off them, now I am back on them but??? I stopped smoking cold turkey. I went vegetarian all at once, no meats at all, for years. Travel got me back to chicken. And almost 2 months ago I gave up half my daily calories.

Ha ha, chilled chicken. I would be able to be moderate with frozen treats but many others I cannot take just one. I just do not buy it or have it in the house.

If I need to I can stop eating or drinking something right away, I just set my mind to it and before I know it becomes a habit not to do that,

I'm doing keto and I allow myself the outshine bars. Not the yogurt ones not the pineapple or coconut. The latter two have the most calories and carbs. I eat candy your way too, I didn't know I wasn't alone on that. I can't bring sweets into the house or they don't stay long. Good luck on your resolve sticking like glue.

I would have chosen to taper down rather than going cold turkey just like in case of meds. I can't cut down all forms of sugars from my diet plan at one go. Good luck with you.

Not sure I would want to give up sugar totally..but you can always use less, eat less..or bake with those sugar stevia products..my cousin banks with I think it is monkfruit sugar which is a good substitute.
