Bartering lives! I love this ancient tradition!

A couple of years ago, I restored some speakers for a nice gentleman. I think I charged him my usual (at that time) $100, and he was happy. The oiled walnut looked great, and all broken corners were repaired. But he also told me that he likes to restore the electronics old amplifiers and stereo receivers, and that he'd be willing to restore my ailing Kenwood KR-5150 1971 stereo receiver (remember those, @JolietJake and @FourWalls?) if I would do another set of speakers for him. More than a year has passed (life gets in the way), and he's finally coming over in a couple of weeks with my repaired Kenwood KR-5150 and a pair of Acoustic Research AR-4s for me to cosmetically restore. Heck, I may even let him have at it with my (now ailing) Jolida 102B tube integrated amplifier and we him another restore. Do you ever exchange goods or services with friends or acquaintences? What do you think would happen if we eliminated money and lived based ONLY on the barter system?

When I lived West side and my Mom was still with us, we gleaned apples and plums from people's yards. Right now we've found a lady who really needs money and is super loving with property and fur kids. She gains money from us for watching over things when we're gone and we gain peace of mind etc. etc.

@TheHorse She keeps the cats watered and fed and dogs fed and watered plus lets them out for running and potty breaks. She keeps the gardens watered, feeds and waters the hens and ducks. Her presence signals to neighbors and burglars that someone is around, walking the property, eyeing things for issues.

Hmm. I do not know about this. I have nothing to offer, really, that would be worth trading for.

I do that emotionally sometimes. But last night I was actually involved in two really good conversations, complete with give and take.

I think life would get better as people would have to get along and work together more.

We have done some amazing barters over the years. Some have been three-way rather than just between us and another party.

I don’t have a lot of talent in that way. If you’d like to refinish my cedar chest I’ll make you a fine dinner, though.

I could do it! I have a friend and she gives me as many pecans as I pick up for her, work for food?! This old man has fruit trees, I can all the apples and pears I want, just make him a couple jars of apple butter and pear preserves. Yes I can live on the barter system, I know how to catch fish and clean them, I have traded with the Chinese restaurant before I cook, many do not so I can make me some trades. I grow plants, many do not. Apology in advance, I commented on comments.

Sounds great but sadly there are too many dishonest people in this silly world.
