Poor Mr. Blue Jay!

Ugh, I'd so hoped that moultin' would'a stopped by now. Alas, such seems to've jest progressed 'n now he looks 'kin to a lil ol' fella with jest stubble growin' from his head. I've great hopes though that those beautiful feathers'll grow back quickly. Sent a friend 'f mine a pic 'f his "progress" fer reassurance that this can be normal'n nothin' 'tis awry. Anybody else got seriously moultin' birds 'round their area?? Most disturbin'...

They do look pretty rough when they are moulting. But still beautiful to me! Have not seen any here, not yet.

oh yes, still beautiful! i'm a tad concerned 'bout this fella though. this's been goin' fer way o'er a month now? the others didn't moult near this much 'n 've 'lready re-grown that which 'twas lost. the pic's the same bird the 28th 'f june, when i first noticed feather loss'n his head.

@CarolDM yes ma'am, 'twas quite the looker. 't times his mate'll come with him close by. she's really shy. i believe this'd be the same pair i saw'n spring. he'd go down'n the vines'n grab her a tasty worm 'n feed such to her. 'twas really sweet to watch. i so hope he gets those feathers'n prior to winter! used to i'd rarely see 'em, e'en the robins 'd not come 'round 'xcept to drink out'ta the pond. the past few years though, they've both hung 'round year round. raised quite a few lil 'uns.

@crazyhorseladycx Wow what a beauty he is! Love the blues. I see these during the winter more often than the summer. I think he will be just fine.

this's the worst i've seen i reckon? does yer parrot go through some years when such's more prominent such's this? i know i've seen cardinals with such back'n the hills, but 'twas earlier'n the summer. i've great hopes he's able to regrow those feathers 'fore winter comes.

i saw him briefly jest a bit 'go. no cooperation fer a pic, lol. looks 's though though feathers're comin' 'long nicely. we'd a cold front come through this morn, 'tis 'nly 79 degrees today! not certain there heat's anythin' to do with his moultin'?? none 'f the others 're this severe anyhow. ya can hardly notice they've lost any 't all.

Could be it's due to the climate changes we're all experiencing

I've never noticed our native birds going through a moult. I wonder if they do and I just don't notice it.

perhaps they do? most birds do i reckon. 'tis usually subtle fer the ones here 'til this fella. the biologist friend i sent this pic to finally replied late this eve. said those'd be new feathers'n he should be fillin' back out here'n the next couple 'f weeks. i'm so relieved'n 'll be countin' the days!

@JudyEv aw, sweet! don'tcha love catchin 'em 'fter their baths? e'en the lil hummers get puffed 'p to 't least double their wee size when fluffin' those feathers to dry, lol. this fella 's the worst i've e'er seen when 't comes to moultin'. none 'f the others out here're e'en noticeable 'nless i compare earlier pics to present'uns. then 'tis very minor.

thank goodness y'ave not seen any this bad, hon. i've yet to get a good view 'f such since this pic 'twas taken. he's bein' more leery 'round the feeders. looks 's though the feathers 've gotten a wee big longer than'n this pic. i'm relieved, i thought he might jest go totally bald! he needs those feathers 'fore the chills 'f late autumn come.
