Would you like to come over for some macaroni and cheese chez Horse?

The other night, after a late gig, I came home hungry. So I threw some frozen macaroni and cheese in the oven and lay down on my bed "just for a few minutes." The next morning, my house smelled a bit odd, but it had not burned down. I quietly turned off the oven and made some coffee. Does that count as a "senior moment" Or just a "stupid moment"? Have you had any recent stupid moments?

I also went into the bathroom the other day to take a Sudafed (allergies), brushed my teeth, trimmed the nails on my left hand, straightened up my bath towel, and left without taking a Sudafed. Don't tell anyone.

@andriaperry I have my share of blond moments, even if my blond has mostly turned to brown, and then grey.

@andriaperry Deal. It's funny. When I'm "good pirate," and the little ones are on their "ship," I bring them macaroni and cheese (made of air). They like the gooey part, and I eat the cheesy crust.

I have forgotten things on the stove while I am wrapped up in doing work on my PC and I remember when it is often too late to save the food.

@TheHorse for that reason I can suggest a medium-sized toaster oven. I put in frozen food, toast, or food that needs heating., Set it for some minutes, set the temp and when it is done it ding calling me to come and get it and if I am doing something and don't hear the ding it is shut off anyway. Great asset for me.

I have left a cast iron pan on the stove to dry over a flame. The smoke alarm alerts me that it is time to remove it.

@TheHorse Often house fires start from an oven. Electric ovens have heating elements that can spark a blaze, if you have put inside something that has even a bit of oil in it, a fire is assured. Gas models may develop leaks that can lead to explosions.

Can ovens start fires? I think f them as "closed systems."

Oh wow, sure am glad you didn't start a fire. Not too long ago I had a pan of potatoes stewing on the stove and got distracted by myLot (it's all your fault). Smelled something burning, but the the smoke alarm blaring was another hint and grabbed the pan just before it was ready to ignite. I didn't even bother trying to clean it, just threw it in the trash after it cooled, opened all the windows and turned on two fans. I promised my husband I would never be on the phone or computer again if I were cooking anything.

Oh dear. It happens so easily, doesn't it? I guess being in the over it didn't set off any smoke alarms - if you have them.

Oh I have them. Strangely, the only time one went off was when I got a new shower head and it generated a lot of steam (not smoke). I wonder how those things work.

I've made a few burnt offerings due to absent mindedness over the years. Thankfully, one or another of the other residents in this looney bin I call home found my error before anything has had the chance to continue to cook overnight.
