I have done the counting of calories daily for a couple months, most days I am good but I have a few days that the calories pile up from all the delicious bad foods I should not eat. While I still read labels, I didnt today and just ate. But.... yeah that word. I have been moving, walking, lifting and bending a million times on Thursday. Anyways, here is what I ate and guesstimated calories. Light clam chowder - 200 calories ( know that one) 3 KFC chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, cookie - maybe 500, go to 600. Jacked my blood sugar to 239! Smart one meal - 260 ( this one I know) Peanut butter and a granny Smith apple ( thanks to Carol! P.O.S.) Calories unknown, ??? Can you just about keep within a normal range of calories without counting?

I decided to weight everything and count the calories and I was surprised how many more calories than what I guessed I was having. It was just an experiment, now I have "adjusted" my portions and I skip a few things, just to be sure not to gain weight.

@andriaperry I admit that I was surprised, you add a little spoon of mayo not considering that you just added 100 calories to what you are eating, 4 walnuts and another 60 calories, oh my goodness!

@LadyDuck I know! I use light mayo, when I use it, and I have avoided all nuts except almonds a few times.... check out avocado!

I know what you are going through, some days it can be a struggle! Sorry that meal made your sugar go up that high! Sounds like some good tasting food though. I have to count mine, I will go overboard if I don't! Today I didn't eat the greatest. Coughing constantly so just wanted comfort food

You need those coughing pearls, the doctor gave them to me once and Tony takes them when needed.

I am bad about keeping calories, for every meal, but if I ate some of the same types of food , I would know. I am just looking for sugar and sodium these days, and every now and then look at calories.

@andriaperry I really have to watch the salt and sugar, not so much to prevent diabetes, but because of kidney stones.

I don't count calories and I am not dieting but my diet could be called hungry one day and not the next. I think the most I had lately was some nice and crispy French fries I heated up in my toaster oven. Maybe this might give you an idea

If I eat at home I pretty well can keep on target. Something is going on with my fasting blood sugar and I do not like it. I may go back to some herbs that I think helped. When my sleep is messed up or I take cold medicine it goes up. I walk about six miles a day or more, most days. So I just eat what I like.

I have never counted calories so I have no idea if I eat to little or to many. You are so active I’m sure you burn through a lot of calories daily.

I pretty much maintain my weight with my activity combined with what I eat. If I slack off the exercise I gain a pound or two over a period of a few months so I know I need to eat less or exercise more. I just eat what I like but I don't have an issue with my blood sugar so that does make it a little easier.

Since I generally eat the same foods I pretty much know what the calories are. There are days when I'm under and other days when I'm over.

I try every day; but the only way I can lose weight is to be hungry all day long. It's a no-win situation. I feel for you, especially with the diabetes. All you can do is go to the next day and start over again. That's what I do.
