Yeppers, I gave in and donated to the NPR radio station that comes in clear as a bell here in Pleasant Hill CA. They even pronounced my name (not "Horse") right. The station broadcasts from Sacramento CA, I believe. They play classical during the day, and jazz in the evenings. I play mostly folk, rock, and Western Swing but I listen mostly to classical and jazz. It's still strange to me that almost all of the best radio stations are "public" and "listener-supported." But I will not gripe. There are still a few out there who appreciate good music.

Can you get classical on the radio? Most of what's on the radio here is garbage. The classical and jazz stations have all gone "public." Decline and fall...

@TheHorse Our ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has one station that is purely and simply classical. There is also a jazz station and another is devoted to country.

When I donate to CJRT I do it online, so they do see my name, but I tell them to just call me BarBara P... I don't want to hear my name mangled.

@TheHorse there are many different ones from lively to quiet but this is a mix of some English and Latvian and is sure to amuse you. It was quite popular.

That is cool and also nice of you to donate to something you use. I don't listen to classical very often at all, sometimes while falling asleep I listen to Jazz a little more but there is no radio station in my area that plays it.

@TheHorse That is awesome! How kind of you to donate money and a wonderful thing for them to thank you over the radio. I love classical and jazz too! Apparently I have an odd taste in music for my age. There is this video game I really love called Saints Row 2. It's like a Grand Theft Auto type of game. Anyway when you're driving, you have radio stations to pick from. I listen to a lot of the stations ( except heavy metal ) but I always find myself listening to the classical station the most. It's just soothing to me.

Heh. I went to a bachelor party and we (the boys) played Grand Theft Auto (I can't remember which iteration). I put classical music on and then mowed down as many grannies on the sidewalk as I could. It was fun being the most heartless criminal in the world, if only for a fleeting drunken moment.

I feel good about it. They play jazz in the evenings, and classical during the day. I get better reception of this station that of the Bay Area's own classical and jazz stations (one each--the horror).

Romantic can have many meanings! It can mean love songs (of various kinds and from various places). It can mean music from the Romantic era of classical music (e.g., Beethoven). Heh.
