Visited Cotton at the Park

Have talked a few times about our local state park. They rescue wild animals found abandoned or injured in the woods. Many times the animals can be released back into the wild. A few years ago I discovered an owl named Cotton the rangers rescued. She was found as a baby, in the snow. Her wings were damaged and could not fly to protect herself. Thankfully the rangers took her to the park, gave her medical attention and now she has her own home for visitors. They also take her out for school trips form time to time. Such a beautiful animal. Does my heart good to see rescued animals given another shot at living their life.

A couple of years ago there was a hawk's nest in a tree adjacent to one of the swimming pools I manage. A storm or gust of wind knocked the nest out of the tree and three baby hawks ended up on our pool deck. They were clearly injured from the fall, and momma hawk was trying desperately to protect them from a mob of hungry crows that were zeroing in for easy kills. We were able to call wildlife officials and they came out and rescued all three baby hawks and took them to be cared for. Once they were fully rehabilitated they were released back out into the wild again. Always a great story when animals can be saved.

@CarolDM I think my aunt was on a mission to do just that. When I was little, she always had about a dozen animals in her home at any given time. She was always rescuing a stray dog or cat here and there.

What an experience. So glad it had a happy ending. I wish I could save all the animals without a home.

@crazyhorseladycx It is the only life she has ever known, being rescued as a baby.

That poor baby, never would have survived the bitter cold winter! I'm so glad they rescued 'Cotton' and gave this owl the medical care that was necessary. There were two American eagles found sick and dying, beside the Saginaw River. They were rescued, nursed back to good health(about a year), and then returned into the wild. I love stories like these, where people restore the life of these beautiful creatures!

@CarolDM I wish that I'd have cut the article out of the newspaper. Crowds watched, it was a big ordeal freeing those eagles into the wild! Cotton deserves a good life, thank God she was given a second chance:)

I'm glad people saved her. You know I'm scared of birds, but owls are scared, they look scary to me.

@CarolDM In one city in my state there was a period where owls attacked passers-by during the day. Experts have not discovered the reason.
