Don't look now but we've got ourselves a convoy

At the Blackwood Marathon that we attended on Saturday, some 100 plus teams competed. About 70 of these teams had someone competing in the equestrian phase. There were about ten where an individual attempted all five sections. Four of these ten were from only family- mother, father, son and daughter. There was also a cousin of the children riding. Can you imagine the logistics? Transporting five horses and all the gear, five bikes, and five canoes for starters. I hope they had a good back-up team.
The photo shows the last two horses to complete the 16km. The one on the right is very fat so had to take the ride at an easy pace. The grey is desperate to go faster and gave its rider a hard time. The cars behind are official cars coming from the swimming and canoeing areas. They have a very slow trip to the home base behind the walking horses. I don’t know why all but one didn’t go past but I guess they had their reasons.

Instead of pace car, it is pace horse.

Of cars and horses. ain't that exciting!
That is a convoy indeed.
I still don't understand the purpose of the games but sense that this could be a wild but fun competition.
Do take care.

The cars don't have anything to do with the competition. It was a marathon. The five sections were: running, canoeing, swimming, riding and cycling. Teams of five people competed with each person doing one of the disciplines. Some very tough people did the five sections on their own.

@JudyEv Wow, that sure is a wild competition. We only have Iron Man/Woman competitions that involve swimming, cycling and running. Yours is mind blowing to semi-sedentary people like me.
Wishing you garner the tops. If you don't, which I hope not, nothing to feel bad about. Just joining makes all of you guys winners.

@eileenleyva We're too old to be competing. We just take photos of the horse section.

The one on the right is very fat - is the horse or the rider or both?

The cars would only have gone a few kilometres I think at the slow speed and they could have gone round the horses if they had wanted to. There was just one vehicle bringing up the rear making sure all riders got home safely. I'm glad you've been able to learn a bit about horses.

That does sound like a lot of logistics for fami!ies to participate in the marathon. Does sound like fun though and I guess if they participate they have it all down to a science

those folks must be mighty dedicated, eh? makes me wonder how many vehicles 't took to get all the gear, critters'n folks there'n one piece, lol. 'tis nice though, they do such's a family. oddly neither 'f my boys took to horses nor cattle.
that grey looks to be arabian'n no doubt 'twas not pleased to be held back. glad they stayed though so's that fella'd not get too lonesome. proud 'f him fer not pushin' his horse, too. so easy to get 'em injured due to no fault 'f their own. 'tis interestin' all those autos followed 'long. reckon that 'twas'n their job description though - to make sure the last 'f those participatin' made 't safely to the finish line. 'r to give whate'er services 'rised if'n not.
