December 13 - What I'm Thankful for Today

Today is Friday. Today is Friday. Today is Friday. All day today I wanted to watch Saturday morning cartoons. Only it's not Saturday, and though I could watch cartoons anytime I want with the way they're on all the time now, the only place it's Saturday is in the book I'm working on. Have you ever gotten so engrossed in something you lost all sense of what day, month, even year it was? Working with Historical fiction, I've even encountered that problem. I'd finish what I was doing and then have to think about what day, month, and the year it was. Such was today. Also helped along by the fact I didn't go to the pool this morning and haven't been there since Monday. I can't wait until Sunday to get this week back on track once again. Today, I'm thankful for my imagination. It might be a bit frazzled, but it lets me know it's working. That's a good thing. I'm thankful for technology. It puts me in touch with you and I'm not sitting here pecking away on a typewriter. If you're not old enough to know what a typewriter is, Google it. I had someone tell me once they saw one in a museum. Her statement did not make me feel young. However, a touch of a button and I'm connected to the world. I'm thankful to be a dreamer. Without dreamers, life would be dull. Everyone needs a dream and to follow their dream. And most importantly never give up on your dream. My feet might be planted on the ground, but my mind is in the clouds. Dreamers are the inventors and storytellers of tomorrow. Imagine if you didn't have that cellphone you're reading this on? I'm thankful I'm old school. I like the old ways. I needed to be pushed into the 21st century. Except for the computer. I was fully on board with the computer and couldn't wait to get my first one. Aren't you glad they don't weigh 27 tons and take up a full room, but you can hold it in the palm of your hand? I like my desktop. All those things I'm thankful for shows I'm fully alive to enjoy them. An awesome thing to be thankful for. I'm thankful for the breath in my body, my eyes to enjoy what I'm seeing outside my window, my ears to hear the traffic and Christmas music. What are you thankful for? Maybe it's your bed as it might be late and time to nestle in its warmth. Tell me what you're thankful for. Thanks for reading. The picture is another from the Botanical Gardens.

@just4him Do you have an agent? Look, this self publishing world we live in is great. But an agent could be shopping a book around to producers wanting to make a movie. Most starving writers nowadays are starving because they have bypassed the traditional system to getting published and getting noticed. It is too easy nowadays to get published because no one is really evaluating the work. But it is hurting more than it is helping, because if the PUBLIC doesn't get it, no one will. At least editors know what sells, what may make something you write less than sellable, and of course the onus is on the writer. There is a reason some writers should not make print.

I know I know, don't say it, right? Many really have no idea just how much they should be thankful for.

If they would stop and think about all they have instead of what they don't have, it could change their thinking.

i confess to missin' my ol' typewriter. somethin' 'bout reachin' the end 'f the line 'r finishin'. the sound the keys make, the smell 'f the ribbon. thankful fer sunshine 'n a wall full 'f windows that lets me view so much without e'er steppin' outdoors. which reminds me, i need to wash said windows tomorrow if'n the winds calm a bit.

@just4him yes, the bell! that sound 'twas priceless, particularly when 'twas the last'un, lol. i can relate to the missin' letters. mine's missin' o'er half. when the hubs 'insisted he needed a puter (he's doesn't compute, so purty much a waste 'f funds), he offered to trade me. then saw my keyboard 'n said ne'er mind. the 'nly thingy i truly don't miss 'bout my ol' typewriter'd be when i'd pull the page'p to fix a typo (gotta love white-out, eh?) 'n then couldn't get 't lined back correctly.

@crazyhorseladycx You never could get it lined up. I've tried it. I've come close, but never perfected it.

I liked the bell at the end of the line when you snapped it back to the beginning of the line again. These keyboards don't have that bell sound and you're not getting any wrist action moving the roll back to the beginning. And what about that zippy sound when you pull the paper from it real fast? Yes, there are some things to like about a typewriter. However, I love my keyboard. I just wish the letters wouldn't wear off of them. I never had that problem with a typewriter.

My family(children) is supportive of my goals in life. Instead of saying, 'Mom, you're just getting old!' They allow me to dress old fashioned(70s) and conduct myself as an older lady, who enjoys being 68 yrs old. I don't want to be any younger! Getting older gracefully is fun.

Sometimes I have trouble remembering what day it is. I think it happens to most of us - at least, I hope it does.

I can still remember the time when I received an electric typewriter from my hubby. Now, I wonder where it is. I still remember using the old typewriter in college where I have to push it on the side when the bandpaper had no more space to type. We then used a carbon paper, too. Strange, isn“t it? I am glad technology has improved and so I came to know you and the other Mylotters.

I agree. Technology is great and brings people together they wouldn't have met otherwise.
