These Items Are No Bargain At Walmart

This article I found by Best Life provides some items sold at Walmart that you should avoid buying. These products are of subpar quality and not worth the expense.
Here are a few of those items they mention:
- Starter Brand Items like sneakers, sweats and shorts are of poor quality.
- Great Value Chunk Light Tuna tastes bad and has been known to come packaged with ground up bone in the ingredients.
-Road Bikes are made with cheap components.
-Spring Valley Brand Supplements have had past issues with containing supplements not listed on the label and even worse, not containing the ingredients listed.
-Great Value Dishwasher Gel does a poor job of removing water spots and food from dishes.
-Batteries: although low in price better deals are had at warehouse stores like Costco and Sam's Club.
-Printer Ink: I have bought this item from Walmart and although comparible in price to other stores if you want the lowest prices online is the best. If your interested you can find re-manufactured cartridges for as much as 50 percent off the price you would pay in Walmart.
-Organic Foods are not priced cheaply like common food items at Walmart.
Have you ever bought any of these Walmart items?
Have you ever had a bad experience with an item purchased from Walmart?
I have bought some Great Value items at Walmart though fortunately none listed in this article's research.

@db20747 I think the article is just a general guideline. I find Walmart like other stores I shop at very good in some product areas but no so good with other items. It really is personal preference. One thing is true, for many items you can't beat Walmart's price.

I've bought the bakery items and find them Ok. At least the ones I bought. You make a good point about their food items.
One consumer reports listed Walmart as having the worst produce departments for quality among it's competitors.

@dgobucks226 In Switzerland there are not superstores as you have in your country. We have big grocery stores and malls, but not superstores that sell almost everything. I visited one Walmart once in Florida (I think it was in Orlando) and I was not impressed.

Price wise they are very reasonable with a huge inventory of items. Do you have a superstore located around your area Anna?

@LadyDuck The one I go to in New Jersey is very good. I guess it's really a subjective determination. Certain things I really dislike about Walmart, but for some items I buy there the store is good. I'm not a regular customer.

@celticeagle I always have trouble with sizing when I do that. I prefer to try on clothes before making a purchase.

I'd go along with that too. There are some items for much less but I come across others I can buy cheaper on sale in the grocery store.

I have had a few bad purchases there over the years. After much complaining they compensate me.

I really dislike returning things at Walmart. Seems the return line is usually long and the customer service slow.

@dgobucks226 That doesn't surprise me. I really like the meat and produce at Aldi.

I agree about Great Value. Of the items I purchased I could not tell any difference from more popular brands. Fish like Salmon and meat sold at Walmart have received poor reviews claiming these items have poor taste.

You still have to shop. I think that is the moral of this story. That's no matter where you go. Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree or otherwise. You have to know your prices and you have to know your products and you have to know where a premium is worth the extra expense.

Very well put! As they say knowledge can be a powerful thing. And in the world of shopping you must know your market!

@dgobucks226 I know a good price when I see it, let's put it that way. I don't know how many times my wife and I will be out shopping at one store, and the wife says, "Didn't you say you needed X," and I respond with, "Yeah, but I can get it cheaper somewhere else." I endeavor very hard to never spend more than I need to on anything. Most of the time it works out very well, and those saved pennies add up.

Another great option for printer ink is to bring your empty cartridges to Costco and have them refilled for $7.99. Which I never knew. Will have to look into it. Also, online offers the same reduced cost.

Absolutely, certain Great value items seem very reasonably priced plus their quality is ok.

I'm surprised about the Spring Valley supplements. I'll have to check my bottles and see what kind I have. Thanks.

Yes, that was a surprise to me too. Sometimes it is better to pay a little more for a better name brand.

I ever purchased printer inks at Walmart. Their prices are lower than staples but there are other stores that are cheaper than Walmart. I also bought a printer there. As far as I remember, it was $30 about 8 years ago. It was on Sale and it is still good now. Great Value is good if you want to buy spices. You can't tell the difference between Great Value salt and the brand name salt.

You make some good points. I also bought a Printer there with copier function and I've gotten terrific use out of it. I agree, certain Great value items seem very reasonably priced plus their quality is ok.

Well said!
