I got a check for $3,500 today.

As you know, I was hit from behind this past Summer by a woman who lost control of her car. The accident occurred in Montana. I finally got a check yesterday for $3,500 (the estimate from the body shop), and deposited it today. The cool thing is that I was able to fix some of the damage by myself, using car polish and old rags. Have you ever been in a car accident that was not your fault? I hope to get the remaining repairs done soon and move on.

I had an accident seven years back due to fault of a bus driver and cab driver. My car was damaged and insurance covered it. But I got so scared that it took me few months to go back to driving.

I never stopped driving. But the accident reminded me that we are never "totally" in control.

@TheHorse Yes. And we might be a safe driver but other morons on road can put you to risk.

I was rear-ended by a young lady who seemed to be learning how to drive. The fender was broken and it had to be changed. I got an estimate from the dealer's car shop (Ford) and had it repaired courtesy of the lady's insurance. That was 2 years ago.

The person who hit me was a woman in her early 40s, I'd guess. The issue was her tires. They were not good in the rain.

@TheHorse oh, her car took a skid. That's really bad due to poor maintenance.

I take it nobody was hurt. I think I drove by three accidents today in the rain...and immediate post-rain.

@marguicha I don't find it so. I just slow down a bit and pay extra attention to what's happening around me.

Repair it? What the heck for? It's a vehicle. It has no appreciating value. Live with the dents, deposit the money, and move on. Repairing it is a complete waste of money.

Wow. That's a great loot. I HAVE been in accidents that were not my fault. Does not happen often. In the times it has happened I took the money and invested it. A vehicle is NOT an investment and I will spend NO MONEY on aesthetics. Just give me the money and I am happy.

I've gotta agree with that. The local dealership has been hounding us to "protect our investment" by buying their extended warranty for our car... that one always makes me laugh. Cars are liabilities, they're doomed to depreciate and eventually you're going to be sinking more money into them than it's worth to keep them on the road!

Yes I was rear ended. I didn’t get much because the damages were minor. But my car was only a year old, so I couldn’t just let her walk either. Glad you got your check! Hope you aren’t hurt !!

I've had a few that were not my fault. Most paid quickly. One lady had to be chased down by a witness since she rammed my truck while I was in a doctor's office. She was so mad she was cornered and even lashed out at the officer who arrived.

@TheHorse It is. From what I heard, she lost her license and doubt she got them back at her age. I think she was 83 or so. If that is on her record, I wouldn't think they would.

You are rich! How much will it cost to repair the car? Hubby recently had some guy that was going fast break his driver's side mirror. It's expensive to replace. He had the guy pay him for the damage, so when he replaces the whole darn thing he doesn't have to spend his own money.

That is as it should be. I had a "lane-splitting" motorcyclist take out my left rear-view mirror. He did not stop. So technically it was a "hit-and-run,"which are common in the Bay Area. Happily, the mirror bent forward but did not break off.

two of them living in DC we have lots of aggressive drivers! One actually called my insurance company and said the accident was my fault. The insurance company called me and warned me my rates were going up. I sent them the dash cam video. it wasn't my fault anymore!

That was nice. I have only been in one major accident and that was when I was literally driven off the road by what turned out to be a very nice young man who presumably just wasn't paying attention. I still can't quite imagine how he did it, because he overtook my car (I was driving at about 60 mph with my 5-year-old daughter and we were singing 'We're nearly home' as we drove) and then basically just pulled into the front of me. It simply wouldn't have been possible for him not to know I was there as he had just passed me! I was forced off the road, heading for a band of trees at a rapid rate, I yanked the wheel round to avoid them and the car spun 180 degrees and smashed into the trees backwards instead. Luckily we were both fine; the outcome could so easily have been quite different. My daughter was in the front seat; if she had been in the back as many people recommend she would have been cut to pieces with all the broken glass. She said 'Why did you do that Mum?' The other driver stopped, came over to help us out of the car, and asked 'Did I hit you?' I was tempted to be sarcastic - I don't normally just randomly drive off the road! But he was very nice, and another driver also stopped and said he had seen it happen and offered to be a witness if required. But my car was written off and because it was quite old I only got a minimal payout.

Glad that you have it resolved. I don't drive and never have so no car accident is my fault. My mother hit my ex husband's car while trying to back out of the driveway after a storm. Dented the front right headlight. They didn't go through the insurance company. My mother had just gotten her liscense so my ex cut her some slack and they settled peacefully out of court.

Wow, that's taken a while! Every accident I've been in has been the other party's fault. I was rear-ended by a young driver who quite frankly had no business being on the road (my friend's mother worked for her insurance company and helped me file the claim against her policy; that was her third at-fault accident in as many days according to their systems). Then a deer ran right into the side of my car. Most recently, an older guy drove right into me in a parking lot. Didn't look my way, didn't stop at the stop sign in his aisle... first thing out of his mouth when it happened was "I didn't even see you there!" Um... yeah, I guessed that when you drove into the side of my car, dude. That last one annoyed me because he did about $2,500 in damages to the front corner of my car and his truck had one little scratch on the bumper. Being able to move on after dealing with all that baloney is a really great feeling. Hope you're able to get it taken care of without too much inconvenience!
