Another Day, Another 25 Cents

It's a phrase we often say. Of course, today is Monday and that means the weekend has run its course, and it's time to go back to work today for another week. Neither me nor the wife are entirely up to it this morning. But, one must do what one must do. There are things we need, things we want, retirement to contribute to, and so in order to do any of those things we need to make money. Another day, another 25 cents got said yet again as we did our grumbling. Funny, here on MyLot it could LITERALLY be that.

This is the first time I've heard of that 25 cents.

@porwest well, it looks like an idiom or maybe just an expression.

If I get that much in a day that indeed is a big accomplishment.

It would be awesome to be able to live on 25 cents per day, so long as pay did not tumble because of it.

@porwest That's true. No wonder my legs are sore at the end of the day. It's all this running in place and going nowhere.

At the end of the day the thing is that we work so damn hard for every penny we get, and pennies are so hard to get. Some days it feels like all we are doing is being a hamster running in a wheel. Your legs are going a million miles a minute...but you are exactly where you started.

I thing I remember that saying being another day another dollar but I think due to increase in the cost of living and all the extra taxes it dropped down to 25 cents.

@Bensen32 Even in the days of the old West, I am sure people made more than 10 cents in a day. I could be wrong. But I think so.

Your cited version is more common than the one I used. But I just like to say 25 cents. Makes it sound more dire.

When I was working I used to say another day another 50 cents. Inflation surely has gone up.

I do too. I once said we should just sip Mondays and get on with Tuesdays. But then Tuesdays would just become the new Mondays. You can't kill this evil Monday no matter what you do.

i love that old saying - another day another quarter! (dollar)... time is the one thing we are all short of...but we chase money.

It is a funny thing. That chasing the money thing. Even for me, one who is VERY attuned to money, sometimes find myself questioning what the point is since tomorrow is not guaranteed and I cannot take any of it with me,

It's a VERY American term that goes back to an earlier time when people's wages added up to about 25 cents a day. That was a VERY long time ago. The average daily wage based on a 5 day workweek is about $225. But that depends, of course, on the type of work you do.
