Do you really get healthier?

Unless you are allergic, and even then you have hypoallergenic dogs, I would recommend getting a pet. My first inclination was to say get a dog, but some are primarily cat lovers.
Annabelle is my 9 year old Chihuahua. I got her halfway through my mom's dementia, and she was such a blessing. The day before Thanksgiving in 2019 I adopted seven year old Chihuahua, Sadie. I thought Annabelle needed a buddy, and while I was concerned about money, Sadie actually ended up saving me money. Long story short, I had to take Sadie to a vet that wasn't my normal one. Not only was this vet better, they charged about 70% less than my original vet. So now Annabelle goes there too.
Sometimes, my depression was so crushing I only got out of bed to let my dog use the bathroom. I know from other discussions I am not the only one to do that.
And dogs and cats are not your only options. Plenty of rescue pets are ferrets, birds, or even hamsters (my niece rescued a dwarf hamster). Others take to the beauty of fish, or intrigue of the slow, but steady turtle. So many people rescue pets, but they also are the first to say their pet rescued them.
People with pets are shown to be healthier, and live longer. And I would encourage you to look into "pet pantries" for those with little money. Often pet pantries will give dog or cat food to vets, those with a low income, and also the elderly.
It's worth looking into.
In addition, if you have a heart for helping, visit the below site where you answer a simple trivia question and the site donates kibble and kitty litter to shelters. H u may have to type in the address yourself.

I like cats but my wife doesn't. We used to raise rabbits.

I don't have dog right now but I know it can give added happiness at home. My friends said their pets are their stress-reliever.

I have a cat, got him when he was 6weeks old. he's now going on 8 in april. Doesnt seem like hes helped me at all. But did get him for my depression.
We have a pet pantry here, and have gotten cat food for us, my grandma, and my bf, many times. They are a great idea.

I fully agree with you. Our dogs serve as the stress reliever in our home. My wife is hypertensive but she started to get better when we had dogs.

I always felt less stress and anxiety when we had dogs. I really miss them.

Our dogs are also our guards. They stay in front of the doorway.
