Smart speakers, yea or nay?

i wrote an article on a site recently and got great feedback from a lot of people about smart speakers.
So I thought I would throw this out to Mylot.
What do you think about smart speakers? Are you pro, (yes have one or would love to have one) or are you anti (wouldn't have one ever)?
(smart speakers include Google Home, Amazon Alexa, The Apple Siri, and the Samsung Bixpy systems)
I am really curious about this and wanted to expand that conversation.

Is there such a thing as dumb speakers? Oh wait, those are politicians.

I’ve sat through a couple of presentations by not-very-smart speakers, so I’d definitely say YEA to intelligent speakers!
Huh? Not that kind of speakers?
Truth be told, I’m not interested in them. I have Siri, who doesn’t understand half of what I say, and that’s enough.

I like them, think they are neat, just have a problem with the security of them. Spying and all that.

@andriaperry I would be like lets see what Angie is doing and no one has me on cussing. Pirate potty mouth here.People hide their kids when I am around. I do try, but this homie has no kids and fly's solo. How can one prepare.

Part of me wants to have one, but I am just not sure if they are secure enough. I have friends that have them and I think they are pretty neat.
For right now, I'm happy with my non-smart bluetooth speaker.. .though I've heard bluetooth may not be as secure as it once was.

@DocAndersen As I love silence in the home I do not see myself shouting orders anyway.

@LadyDuck i can understand that! I had loud younger sisters growing up so the music drowned out the noise!

So, you are talking about things on the internet and not individual people?

I can understand that. If it is about individuals too then I think if one is just shy to speak in front of people that does not make it that they are not a smart speaker, it is just that they have a problem speaking in public.

We have 3 echo dots. The kids have one for there room for bed time and it just plays music or reads them a story. The one I have in the kitchen I use to listen to music while cleaning. The kids will also ask it what the weather is to know what to wear for the day.

I don't want those things in my house. I am not a conspiracy theorist nor am I a privacy nut. I just think having any of those things in the house pose a potential threat. Everyone says they are not listening until you call out its name. I say, what are they doing while waiting to HEAR their name?

@DocAndersen LOL. I mean, in a sense, all of these companies probably know more about me than I know about myself. Why give them one additional opportunity?

I have a mini portable speaker here at home. I think it's a great purchase mainly because you can bring it anywhere around the house. The cons for me though is it might gasp informations as per conspiracy videos that i've watched on YouTube saying that Smart Speakers listens to the consumer's conversations. But that needs some concrete proof. Thanks for sharing!
