Question of the Day- Household Junk

My question for today is: What items have you accumulated over the past 10 years in your home that you now consider junk? As I thought over this same question I came up with a short selection of some items myself. Take a look... -I have extra sets of phone charger cords for cell phones I've seen upgraded. -Still have my old landline phones. Hey you never know if they will come back in style again. -Old ball caps and souvenir cups from events I've attended over the years. If I only knew where I put them??? -An old chess set with no chessboard. I use my computer to play chess now. -A trivial pursuit game stored away that I don't play. Anyone up for a game, -A set of homemade golf clubs made for me when I began to play golf. -An old junior tennis racket. -A broken VCR and recorded tapings I can no longer use. And now it's your turn! So, what's in your closet or lying around the house? Fanny packs anyone? Photo- Huffpost.com

Oh I have some things myself like that. Now I do still you my landline phones though, I had one that wasn't cordless when the lights went out during a hurricane a few years ago. The traffic on cell phones got so bad with everyone trying to check on someone that it would tell you all phone lines are busy and to try to call later. But other things I do still have are like you. I still have a VCR and tapes, two analog tv's that I can't use now that my cable company made everything HDC , because I'm buying one of their boxes, old phone books, video games, a wii game system, old cell phones and chargers. I looked into my computer draw one day for something and seen all the cd's in there and even a flloppy disk in there, I don't know why I still have them. But, there is one thing about it, I bet my grandkids could tell me what they were. I might keep then, because of the reason, not one uses these things anymore. Who ever knows, because of this, there could be worth some money some day. It might take 50 more years for that to happen though, way after I would be gone! lol

@dgobucks226 What's really funny if we would think about it. All of us in a way are like them hoarders. But our collection is just very, very small. lol

You have quite an impressive list there! I still use my Wii system for gaming even though it is outdated. And like you I have some floppy disks lying around my office. And soon all the CD's I made to listen to in the car will no longer be useful. And like you, I recently threw out a TV from the 1980's which still worked. It is amazing how long we can hold onto things

Two Apple II computers, I suppose still working, but who use them now? I also have a Game Boy, I should try to check if it works, it was funny to play Tetris.

@dgobucks226 My husband thinks to donate the Apples to the Apple museum, he will never "recycle" his babies.

Yes now that you mentioned it, I also have an old computer in my basement. I think Staples a local franchise office retail company here, will accept them for recycle. Now if I can ever get motivated someday I'll take care of it, lol.

I got rid of the fanny pack a long time ago. I do have a landline phone in the closet, lots of computer cords I tell myself will come in handy, boxes and boxes of stuff I need to go through again and start getting rid of all that clutter.

@dgobucks226 There have been times when I needed a cord, so I've kept them all. I should probably get rid of them. Some are probably dinosaurs by now.

It is amazing the things you find that you have not used in years when cleaning. Do you tell yourself those computer cords must be too important to throw out? Funny thing, with me sometimes when I do get rid of somethingthat I figure I don't need anymore, eventually I could have used it

@just4him Yes, probably right. I discovered my cell phone cord also works for my mini speaker I have. So, nice to know I have a spare if needed.

Gosh no on the fanny packs. I didn't even have one of those when they were the hot thing to have. Hmm. Looking around I am not sure there is enough space on MyLot to list all the crap I have that I do not need. I'd have a rummage sale, but that might not be allowed right now.

I understand. One can sure accumulate stuff over time. It's amazing what I find when I clean. It's like a treasure hunt only I don't need the treasure, lol. Totally right about selling used items

@dgobucks226 I don't know how many times I think to myself, "When the hell did I buy this," and then usually, "WHY the hell did I buy this?"

This is a good question. But I don't think I can have a short answer so I will not answer. Our guest room has become a stock room.

I have the same issue since my basement is filled with stuff. I'm always telling myself to sort through it and discard it, but I'm always fearful certain items may come in handy at another time. And if it still works I hate to part with it.. Thanks for your feedback!

@dgobucks226 that is also the reasoning of my wife. She doesn't want to dispose of the small items like clothes and other things for there might still be a used for them.

Homemade golf clubs? Wow, that's amazing to me. Who made them? I'd be keeping those.

Ha, my father ordered the parts from a company and assembled the clubs in his basement. He was quite good at it.

10 years? What about 20 years. We have been living in this house for almost 24 years and we have accumulated so much stuff. We have an entire bag filled with older changers, cellphones and other cords and it has actually come in handy sometimes! I am pretty sure we have some walkmans around here somewhere and I have a lot of other random stuff I have had since I was a little kid. We do get rid of stuff when it is broken or it can be donated, but a lot of the time we do not get rid of the junk because we eventually use it at some point.

I share your view on getting rid of useful stuff. I'm always fearing I might find I need it again. Completely understand where your coming from And yes, I too have stuff from 20 years ago somewhere around my house, lol.

We had 50 years to accumulate "Stuff"; and I have spent the last 10 years or more trying to get rid of it. I've donated dozens of boxes of that "Stuff". Right now I need to go through my closet.
