I want another cruise!

I wrote earlier about some of the entertainment we enjoyed on our 2013 cruise on the Queen Mary 2.
Several pianists supplied music almost round-the-clock in the more intimate bars. A string quartet played during mealtimes and a jazz group worked hard throughout the cruise, continually popping up in one area or another.
The ship employed a dance company of about twelve dancers. There were also four singers who were very professional and entertaining. They performed most nights, sometimes in their own right and sometimes as backing dancers and vocalists for other entertainers.
There were two dance areas, table-tennis tournaments and, of course, several pools and dozens of deck chairs for catching the sea air.
Bridge was held every day. Small tables along one alleyway down the side of the ship held board games or jigsaw puzzles. You could choose to play backgammon, chess, cards or other board games or you could work on a jigsaw for a while.
All this reminiscing is making me think I'd like to go again - but not till COVID-19 has disappeared.

Cruising sound like so much fun. I hope it can be my hobby once I'm retired.

We have been able to do quite a bit of travelling since we retired. We've been very lucky.

@yoalldudes It is expensive but sometimes they have good prices for some of the cruises

@JudyEv Maybe I can recommend this activity to my mother so she can enjoy. Is it very expensive?

I think we should all go on a cruise together! When the virus is gone, of course.

@JudyEv I think that's a fantastic idea! I wonder if we could really pull off such an idea? It probably wouldn't be that hard. Well, maybe myLotters in Australia getting on the same cruise ship as myLotters from the US would be difficult, but it would be fun to try!

@moffittjc It would have to be a round-the-world trip taking in all the countries along the way. MyLot is a global community and we wouldn't want to leave anyone out..

It sounds like a lot of fun. I have only been on mini cruises like Copenhagen-Oslo. I had a great time on the ship and I enjoyed listening to music etc. I would like to go again - one day when the situation is different and it is possible to travel again.

@JudyEv Many years I sailed between Sweden and Finland around Christmas time. I enjoyed the time I spent on the ship and it was also fun to explore Helsinki - but it was very cold!

@Porcospino We've had friends do something similar. One wanted a white Christmas so she certainly got that.

I have never been on a cruise ship in my lifetime. My memories of being aboard a ship was when my relatives and myself went aboard the steamship Cristobal that traveled from Colon Panama to New Orleans until she was taken to Brownsville Texas to be sold for scrap in 1981 after 42 years of service.

@JudyEv What I remember of the ship ride was that it lasted four days. There was a shuffle board on the second deck, a swimming pool that was open for two days while the ship was in the Gulf Of Mexico, a movie on the third evening and when the ship made it to the Mississippi River, some television shows played on the lobby.

I doubt we'll ever go on another cruise but it's been fun going back over these photos.

Always good to dream. You took me back to the Bahamas Cruise in 2000

Do you have photos from it? Perhaps you could write about it.

Me too! I was looking at taking one either this year or next, but everything is on hold for god knows how long now. Let's hope all the cruise lines survive.

@JudyEv I think they are all in dock somewhere. I heard the QM2 was in Oz and dumped all the passengers off, then hot footed (or the navel equivalent) back to Southampton in England, where it is staying put until further notice.
Don't know what has happened to all the crew.

@Orson_Kart We have one cruise ship still docked in Fremantle. It has sick people on it and they are going to offload them I think.

The virus turned what is suppose to be a pleasurable cruise for some people into a nightmare, I agree with you that it has to disappear first.

We just need to be patient and wait for all the fuss to die down.
