The day is chilly. I planted lettuce. No more recycling for the moment.

The day has been chillier than other so I thought I could plant some lettuce seeds in egg boxes. We will see if they will grow and I will have to find a way to transplant them in the winter. Up tp now I had, as many people a special big bag to recycle things. We placed several things as we had been taught and they were taken away every 2 weeks. But today I heard a lady who worked there and who said that this hob was specially dangerous because they had to separate several different things with their hands and they were not given gloves or masks. So, I decided that the recyclable garbage, a clean sort of garbage in a normal situation, would have to wait until all this horror is over. I hope the lettuce will accept the winter conditions. It would if I could place the containers in the terrace or in the raised bed that I had with veggies before Luna came to my house.

Lettuce should do well. It’s a cool weather crop. Our recycling is still being picked up. I’m sure they are using gloves and masks.

They are picking it up here too but a worker was very angry with the company for which she worked.

@DianneN I decided that, as it is a sort of garbage that does not smell, I´d keep it in the garage until this is over.

I think the lettuce can grow fast than other vegetables and you will have a harvest soon.

That's awful that they are expected to sort garbage with any protection at all.

It seems do. Or maybe without enough protection. I have heard that in the US there aren´t enough masks for people in the medical field.

Lettuce is one of those items I have never thought to try and grow. Hope it grows well for you. As for recycling we are still doing it here. I have no idea what precautions the sorters are taking, but I am sure there are procedures in place.

I want to grow lettuce, chard and arudula in winter. Just for fresh green salads.

It depends how cold your winter is, lettuce do not survive our winters.

@marguicha A plastic tunnel is good, it warms during the day with the sun and it keeps the temperature milder during the night.

Lettuce was my favorite in the garden when I was in grade school. But I was never successful because the birds would be ahead of me in harvesting. The mustard was better to plant.

Lettuce is a cool weather plant. It won't stand full winter but it will do well for you in the fall.
