The undergarments and COVID-19

So China offered help to Pakistan, in form of masks.
Pakistani doctors scoffed the product that came in.
According to some reports, Chinese took the traditional undergarment, and modified it to wear it.
I also saw a YouTube link suggesting how to convert conventional brassiere into two masks.
I think as long as it is not an emergency, everybody will look for standard stuff.
Once time is of essence, and acute shortages await them, people overlook such things.
So yeah, I am ok with converting ladies unused undergarments into masks. In emergency it is every hand to the pump. In emergencies we can't be on high horses. We have to IMPROVISE and make do with what we can get.
Pakistan will be paying for it, of course.
Think about it, the consignment is at borders. The country has not kick started industries that can cover the gap. Is there a choice? None as far as I can see.
Chinese too must have faced similar situation, and used such material to be offering it. This is not ridiculing. It is being circumspect. You cannot afford, this will serve the purpose, take it kind. If I were a Pakistani I would take it, and laugh at it while still using it to save my life.
Would you?

Okay, the doctors around the world have already warned that the masks made with undergarments are "better than nothing", but they do not protect enough. As I said, "better than nothing" but useless for doctors and nurses. You have so much good fabrics in India, its so easy to sew a mask, why not to start producing masks instead of clothing? Dior and Armani are already doing this.

The issue is we already have washable ones now. Dad, I and my aunt. Nobody will take even if I gave them. LOL. I am sure, the consignment was not for the doctors or even other health workers or people going out regularly because of essential services.

Some homemade are better than others, but often they are better than nothing. They take care of the big particles in like a sneeze or a cough, so *shrugs* if there is even a chance it helps, I'd say go for it. Thought if you can get the appropriate mask, that is better.
Also, hey! Long time no see. :-D

It's better than nothing on your face. They will soon be making it mandatory to wear face masks I think.

@vandana7 My husband still has some masks from when he used to cut grass. He wore them because of his allergies and his asthma.

@vandana7 There are many types of masks. There is no shortage of Chinese masks. I don't use underwear to make masks

@vandana7 China is very strict with these unqualified mask tubes, which are not in compliance and are not allowed to be produced

I have an online friend who has sewn two sleep masks together for her husband to wear. I would say that if it is embarrasing to wear bras as face masks, drape another cloth over them. Although these are not of medical protective quality, at the very least it would help keep asymptomatic people from showering their friends with exhaled virus droplets. It would help "flatten the curve".

According to Women's Health magazine:
"Experts agree: The key to fighting this pandemic is reducing your exposure to the virus as much as you can. On that note, there’s no need to avoid the outdoors 24/7 or buy up all of the surgical masks you can find (which you should *actually* only wear if you have the virus and want to avoid spreading it, as these masks are designed to keep germs in, not out). I would since I'm not a doctor. But I think doctors need something better than bras.
