Well, that didn't last long

After talking about our new drone a few discussions back, it’s now sitting sad and alone at the top of a tall gumtree (eucalyptus). We took it down the paddock to try to get photos of the coloured foliage of some trees we planted some years ago. It’s autumn here so the trees are very pretty at the moment. To cut a long story short, the drone got out of range and ended up at the top of a tree. We couldn’t find it at first but, after going back down at dusk, we were able to see the coloured lights flashing so at least we know where it is. If the wind doesn’t blow it down, we try using a fishing rod to get a line of the branch and perhaps shake it down. Thank Heavens it was a relatively cheap one. Vince paid a lot less for it than I thought he did so that’s a small consolation. Pictured is a gleditsia, one of the trees in our 'grove'

I hope that the drone do not receive any damage when it is taken down from the tree.

Thanks. I'm not sure we're going to be able to get it down out of the tree.

Oh my goodness, this is such a disappointment:( I wonder if there were very many pictures taken, inside the camera( your drone). I hope it doesn't obtain any damage, when it falls.

Thanks for the kind words. We haven't been able to find it today. It doesn't seem to have dropped out of the tree although we'd had some wind and some really heavy rain.

@kobesbuddy I was looking forward to photographs of the roos once they got used to it.

@JudyEv You're welcome:) I've seen drones hovering over football games, they can photograph every single move!

This is what I have heard it happened to many drones owners. I hope you can get it down soon.

@JudyEv I am sure that he will arrive to recover it. I discouraged my husband for buying one because there are so many tall pines here around.

Thanks. Another lesson learnt I guess. It is a shame though. I'm just glad he didn't buy a really expensive one.

@nela13 No, because we saw it land in the tree. It might be blown away by now.

Oh yes, it's autumn there...I just envy you, it's summer ahead and i'm not looking forward to it as they announce it will be the hottest in the last 50 years. I'd say that this tree makes a lot of mess

Yes, you can see the mess it makes. Luckily it's a long way from the house so I don't feel inclined to rake it up.

@JudyEv That's good, it wouldn't be good for this tree to be in front of the house

Hope you can get it down. Is there any kids around that might be able to help depending on how big of a branch it is on. You are making me want one

I've lost two drones to the trees, one of which was later retrieved, and the other which is still lost in the branches somewhere!

So sorry about the drone. It reminds me of all the kites that get caught in trees. Hope you can retrieve it in one piece.

That would be a great outcome but I doubt it will happen. It is very light with lots of bits sticking out so I really can't see it falling out easily.
