Vouchers given out in our old hometown

My husband and I both grew up in the wheatbelt town of Narrogin in Western Australia although we went to different schools. We haven’t lived there since our childhood although we’ve often visited my parents and other relatives who lived in the area.
Because local businesses are suffering so badly because of the coronavirus, the Shire Council (local government agency) has come up with the idea of giving over 3,000 citizens vouchers for $A50. This has to be spent at locally before the end of August.
A representative said that, because the Shire has had to cancel various events, it has some funds which it can use in this way to provide a little relief.
It sounds a great idea to me, even if the amount isn’t huge. Maybe other areas will be able to do something similar to help their own local people.
The photo is of the old shed that stood on my parents' property.

@judyev That's an excellent idea. Here vouchers have been given to families who normally qualify for free school meanls because of poverty. The idea is that supermarkets will accept the vouchers as payment for food, but there has been a big hiccup and the self service tills have not been programmed to accept the vouchers so people trying to use them are refused and have to go away empty handed - how humiliating is that?

@JudyEv Of course, absolutely. I'm sorry that in the 21st century there is still a basic problem, that there are people who do not have a basic and that is food ... at least that

Hopefully other councils might do something similar which would be good too.

Businesses are suffering and any small initiative to promote them is appreciated.

Hopefully if everyone spends their $50 it will help the local economy.
