Renovation?

No, I'm not getting a renovation on my apartment - don't I wish! My dad and his wife are getting a small renovation to their house. My mom and dad moved into it 23 years ago, so it was due! My mom is gone now, and my dad's wife has lived there almost four years. They had to replace the flooring anyway (long story), and they are using their stimulus check to replace the kitchen countertops and bathroom countertops (with quartz). Someone surprised them with a monetary gift so they are putting a backsplash in the kitchen too. They don't have a lot of money, but my dad is good at talking people down in price, plus he has a knack for finding bargains. I'm happy for them, but I know my dad would never have done it had his wife not asked him too. He just does not care, but he wants her to be happy. What is the last project done at your place of residence? Three years ago I got my apartment complex to put in new carpet in my living room, but that's all. It's cheap as all get out, but at least it was new. They are redoing apartments in my complex, but only as people move out. Which stinks for people already here. Oh, well.

I’m sure your dad will make it beautiful! We had our condo in Florida gutted completely the second we bought it. Our last big renovation was our new family room. I went all out from the ceiling to the floor and didn’t care how much I spent except for the custom made window treatments. I do not like being ripped off. I have not done business with my decorator since. Too bad for her, because we want to redo our old family room whenever the virus goes away.

Would it work if you moved to a new apartment in the same block?

We haven't done anything since we down-sized a few years ago. Our last big project was removing all of our kitchen cabinets and having new cabinets and cupboards installed. It was a very long process, because after the cupboards are in, you have to have the appliances installed and then the lighting had to be upgraded and the positioning of some of the plugs and then finally the countertops and finally the backsplash. After all of that, we had the kitchen professionally painted and it looked so darned good, we both were so happy with the way that it turned out.

I live in an apartment too. Last year they painted the outside of all the buildings.

I wish they'd paint our building. They painted the shutters, but not the actual building, which really needs it.

We need so much done it's ridiculous. The last thing done was we had a new faucet installed in the kitchen. The whole outside of the house needs to be painted, we need a new garage door, we have several electrical and plumbing jobs that need to be done, the guest bathroom needs an overhaul....need I go on? :-(

It's hard to find the time and money to fix everything.

Does the garden count? If so the recent list would be quite long.

We cut another doorway between the two sides. I have been saving my online earnings and buying unfinished oak cabinets to make a wall of. I have nearly enough to get the last four. People at Lowe's are often surprised at all the gift cards I take in. Some are $25 or $50, but often they are $5. It adds up.

Good, your Dad is having work done. That stimulus check is a very good thing. I just hope all who needs it be able to get one. I need things done here, but everyday you hear more about people losing their jobs, its scary. I lived in an apartment once that's the only way we got new carpet.

I'm in need of some renovations but haven't done anything recently. I would love to have the whole inside of the house painted

I love to mess with houses but mostly have the ideas and no money to fund those dreams with. The floors in my mobile are pretty funky but when the estimate for thousands of bucks for work came in, well, I bought a 200 dollar rug for the living room and called it done.

That's how my dad felt when he got a estimate for new windows. He'll just use ceiling fans he already has and deal with the heat that way.

@AmbiePam Yeah I know his pain. I have two new windows in my living room. I need to do the entire house but......700 each got old very fast.

That is good that they can fix up their house. I have a small apartment and nothing to be done here but the outside of this house was fixed up last year.

I have a new ceiling fan in the living room/dining area. The one that is common to all apartments wasn't working and I had nothing but trouble with it. The one I have now, is similar to the one they have in the office and works. The original rocked and the lights would flicker on and off. Totally annoying. This one is stable. No more problems.

renovating an old house is good. it increases the life of the house and also the looks. Old rusted fittings, painting and ceiling may need to be redone
