My friend's wife is in the Emergency Room.

My music buddy's wife had an allergic reaction today while eating a sandwich from Panera. They called the Advice Nurse, and when the Advice Nurse learned that my friend's wife had recently been put on blood thinners, s/he said to take her to the Emergency Room, as it could be a reaction to the medicine, not the sandwich. My friend just called me from the parking lot. They wouldn't let him go in with her, so he had to leave her in a long line, waiting to be seen. Earlier in the day Panera had lost their sandwich order, and they had to wait an extra 45 minutes to get their ill-fated sandwich. I told my buddy that my day of sitting on the pot reading Calvin and Hobbes sounds like a luxury cruise compared to theirs. How was your day?

That must be very worrying and awful that he had to leave her to wait alone. I do hope it all turns out okay. And yes, something like your friend is going through does tend to put our own problems into perspective. However --- if you are still not well, maybe it's time you saw a doctor too.

I did talk to my doctor today. He said what I'm experiencing does fit into the virus-based stomach flu mold. He told me I might have to survive a couple more days of stomach distress. I had no fever today, and that put me in good spirits. As for my friend's wife, they couldn't determine what caused the reaction, but it did not get worse, and they gave her steroids and sent her home. I just talked to my buddy and he said she's doing fine.

Oh, wow! Did your buddy say how the allergic reaction happened? Were her lips or tongue swelling up? Did she have swelling around her eyes? I got to spend last Sunday in the ER here. I had an allergic reaction to the new blood pressure medication I started taking two months ago. My eyes swelled almost shut and my throat swelled almost closed before Pretty and I reached the hospital... two blocks from our house.

@marlina Took a while to build up to a toxic level?

Why would it take 2 months before the reaction? I think it is something else.

@marlina The doctors at the ER felt sure it was an allergic reaction to the blood pressure meds. (I've been having problems that we thought was because of my dust allergy since I started taking Metoprolol.) It was the same type of reaction I had after I'd been taking Lisinopril for four years. Sometimes your body just decides it doesn't like something. It can happen as soon as you take/eat something or it can happen any time later.

I feel so sorry for her, waiting alone while you feel sick is not a pleasant experience. I hope she gets well soon.

@TheHorse Allergic reactions can be seriously dangerous. I remember when I ate peanuts that were inside cookies that I bought, I am glad that my husband rushed me to the ER.

They gave her steroids to reduce the swelling and sent her home.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's wife. I hope she is OK. As for you, I'm sorry you still aren't feeling well. Maybe another 24-48 hours will do the trick. Get well soon.

I'm a bit better. My sheets are dry, meaning my fever did not rise as I slept. I can tell I have no fever now. I just had a poop that had SOME substance to it (TMI--sorry), so I think I'm on the road to recovery.

My friend's wife appears to be OK. They shot her up with steroids, and the swelling is down.

Extreme swelling of the lips. Her breathing was not compromised.

My day's been good. Had an allergic reaction to Huckleberries, once, but only a rash on my arm. I was told to stop eating them, so I did. I hope your buddy's wife is okay.

I will add her to my prayers tonight and hope all will be well. I got my groceries delivered today and you just reminded me that I still have half an Italian sub to eat.

@TheHorse Sometimes it can happen and you are not aware of having an allergy.
