Like most countries, Australia has its fair share of beautiful birds and the Major Mitchell cockatoo, also known as the pink or Leadbeater's cockatoo, is no exception. Its taxonomic name is Lophochroa leadbeateri.
It is a medium-sized cockatoo with a length of 36cm (14 inches) with white and salmon-pink plumage and a large, bright, red and yellow crest. It was named in honour of Major Sir Thomas Mitchell, a surveyor and explorer of south-eastern Australia, who was a great admirer of the bird.
They generally live in wooded habitats and lay their eggs in the bottoms of tree hollows. They travel in small groups and there is some hybridisations with pink and grey galahs.
Cookie was a well-known and beloved Major Mitchell which lived at Brookfield Zoo, Chicago, Illinois from its opening in 1934 until dying 83 years later.

@JudyEv I know that for sure. A former neighbor of mine had 2 cockatoos, and those loudmouths would never shut up!

@moffittjc Some of them screech a lot too. That would drive me bonkers.

@jayanth_77 That's pretty cute. It looks like they've made a perch for him to sit on but he didn't use it.

That is a beautiful bird. Are cockatoos able to talk just like parrots?
