Have a pen ready if you have to take down information

Because we are pensioners, we get a Fuel Card each year. However, any monies on the card that aren’t redeemed by the end of June are lost to you. You can find the balance on your card by making a phone call. This costs 50c which grates on Vince as he thinks such a call should be free. He has rung for the balance a couple of times but never makes a note of it so promptly forgets the figures. He has just done it again now - ringing for the figure but not having a pen ready to write down the amount. I’ve written it down now but he wonders why I’m exasperated! Men are such a pain sometimes. No wonder most of them need wives! Anyway, we have $74.04c remaining and will use it tomorrow when we refuel in our nearest city. Fuel is cheaper there. And Vince is making me meatballs tonight so I’ll keep him a bit longer. Photo is of one of my family's first cars. The children are my brother and sister (twins) and me.

Honestly I just loved the picture of the car So stylish it is a work of art absolutely lovely design. Regarding the fuel card maybe email your MP and suggest they made an app rather than relying on phonecalls. In the long run an app is easier and cheaper in my opinion.

Glad you like the car. I'm pretty sure it was an Oldsmobile. I like the 'running boards' the old cars had. The app is a good idea. There might already be one. I'll make inquiries.

Honestly - it would be the first thing I'd do - get a pen and paper ready to write down the numbers.

It is a one-off amount. It doesn't last all year but it's still very handy. I was born in 1946 and perhaps I'm 5 or 6 here which would make it 1951 or 1952.

I'm sure it was an Oldsmobile. It looks huge compared to most of the modern cars.

I'm sure it's an Oldsmobile and the year would have been about 1951 or 2. Glad you enjoyed the post.

@allen0187 Vince is very happy today. We used the fuel card yesterday and there is now only 4c left so the government can keep that bit.

@JudyEv I know, I know very well, now I write down what he says and I take photos when he moves things, because when I say where to put them back it's never as he remembered. At least I can show him. Sometimes he is exasperating.

He has rung up for the amount about four times over the last few months, complains bitterly every time but never writes it down. Quite hopeless!!

What a beautiful photo! I love black and white photo. You are right with men needing wives. I wonder that sometimes. It is always good to have a pen nearby the phone to note down information.

Black and white photos have an old-world charm, don't they? I can't understand why Vince didn't get a pen and paper before he started.

@thelme55 Vince did that too. We would move the nappy pail out of the laundry and he would black it out with cardboard.

@LindaOHio I'm sure most are very competent but some who have had the services of a wife for a number of years might find it hard on their own.

Glad you like the photo. Can you see the little case I'm carrying? These were sold, full of biscuits, at our Royal Show (State Fair). I think we were on our way to a holiday destination and the case would have held my little treasures.
