4th of July Thoughts

I am a little different than most people in the US when it comes to the 4th of July. The 4th is my mother's birthday. She died in 2018 but she would have been 105 today. In my family the 4th was just that mom's birthday and my brother Alain is on the 5th so we didn't have a patriotic celebration, we had a birthday party. Also, my mother was an American citizen but she was born and raised in Canada so for her it didn't have the same meaning as it does for us. It just meant she could never get a birthday card in the mail on her birthday, which is what upset her the most lol And if you asked her to sing the national antheum it would have been O Canada in French lol We never went to see fireworks or had a red white and blue cake. we did usually have a picnic though. So happy 4th of July everyone and Happy birthday Mommy. She is over 100 in this picture.

@DianneN That is so young to lose your mother, I am sure she is never far away from her beautiful daughter.

@BelleStarr You are much more lucky than I. My precious mother, my best friend, passed away when she was only 62. I think of her and pray for her every single day.

Good Morning. It brought a smile to my face thinking of your mother being upset over not getting cards in the mail. I do not blame her.

@BelleStarr I would have been upset myself. My birthday is in four days, so the fourth was just a reminder that my birthday was coming up. My grandmother didn't like that people would lope her birthday and mother's day together. She wanted to be treated on both days!

I love seeing the smile on her face, even at her advanced age in the photo! So lovely and heartwarming! I can relate to celebrating a birthday instead of a holiday. My brother was born on Valentine's Day, so we always celebrated his birthday, and the holiday was never a thing for us. I was born at the end of May, and usually my birthday always fell on Memorial Day weekend, so instead of celebrating that holiday we'd celebrate my birthday.
