Foodie adventures

We had a cooler day the other day. So I got up and toasted granola, because hubby ran out of it.
I also made meat loaf. It was good. I used two pounds of ground beef.
I am sure there were other neat foods I made, but I forget what exactly.
Today I made some chicken fried rice. We also had banana shakes, cause I am supposed to help hubby gain weight. I sweetened mine with stevia, and his with molasses.
I have also finally mixed up the sour dough bread recipe to go with the starter. It is a batter type bread, really sticky dough. Nibbling a little crumb of the dough I can already tell it is not the "sour" sourdough I wanted. It tastes distinctly sweet. I have divided it between two loaf pans. It is supposed to rise all night, again. I will bake it in the morning.
I will likely keep it for making sweet rolls. It kind of reminds me of the "Hawaiian Sweet Rolls" that have become so popular. I will need to get another sour dough starter going that is more like the San Francisco sour dough. Tangy and chewy.
Don't get me wrong. I am sure this bread will be delicious, slathered in butter and strawberry jam for breakfast.
Tomorrow I will meet my friend really early at the lake for coffee, then Bob and I will go to McPherson, to the library, and to see my sister. He will most likely stay in the car at her house as he is to isolate until after his procedure on Monday, since he has had a covid swab.
Guess I will see you sometime tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy every moment you can.

Hubby likes it okay. I think we should make some French toast from it. My technique will get better, as well. It will not go to waste.

He will have to move more and build muscle. I worry about going back to work as he will likely not eat enough.

I would likely put yogurt with them and call it a dessert. That is what I did with my strawberries.

Food is one of my favorite things to talk about! Sourdough products are the first choice of many.
Hope all goes well with Bob.

Well, tomorrow is the day to get some answers about hubby. I love the sourdough from one of our stores but I would also love to be self sufficient and make my own. Food is always a good topic.

They are using that Hawaiian bread everywhere, in fast food sandwiches, etc. Hubby says it is the same as the Portuguese bread made where he grew up. I researched, and he is right. This bread would taste great as sweet rolls for breakfast and such. I could see putting dried fruit in it, or making French toast from it.

@GardenGerty Yes that sounds good for that, but as a roll or bun it is too sweet for me.

I hope you enjoy your coffee at the lake, and your visit with your friend and sister. I hope it's not too hot while Bob has to wait in the car, I know here in Florida that would be tough unless you left the car running with the AC on.

Due to severe weather the coffee at the lake was postponed. Bobwent ahead and came in at my sister's house. We actually are having somewhat "cool" weather. Tomorrow, Monday, while he goes in for his procedure, I am not allowed in the VA hospital. We are having surges in Wichita and all the hospitals have gone back to strict rules.

@GardenGerty I'm sorry that you weren't allowed in the VA hospital with Bob, but I totally understand the abundance of caution on the part of the hospital due to the surge in virus cases. I just hear today that out of our two hospitals here in the city, one is 100% full in their ICU and the other is 85% full in their ICU. That doesn't bode well considering how much our cases are spiking here in town. I hope they don't have to turn anyone way because the hospitals are full.

I made a big one per hubby's request, but froze a good part of it. I love having food prepared ahead.

I am perfecting my technique. It tastes good, and it is good for a breakfast bread. I will continue making it as I have the active starter and the recipe is totally easy.

If you are trying to get him to put weight on use lots of butter and cream in things like mashed potatoes desserts etc,

He eats lots of butter and cheese, etc. Not a big fan of mashed potatoes but rather microwave, with butter, and other things. The most helpful suggestion from the nutritionist is that he drink something other than water, which he drinks a lot of for his other medical issue. He should have full fat milk with extra milk powder stirred in for more protein. He needs to build some muscle back that he loses when he feels bad and sits all the time.

I had to had one.
