And That is Why I Didn't Call or Text

I try to maintain friendships that I have established over the years by either calling them to talk on the phone, or sending a text. Lately it seems I have been so busy that I forget to call or text someone. I usually remember when I am rolling into bed. My head is clear and I can actually think for a minute. But, by then it is too late. Well, out of the blue, I got a phone call from one of my former coworkers, it was a person that I had been meaning to call or text and never managed to do so. We started off with the usual how have you been questions. Then she fell fast and hard on the big hoax and also her political views. She went on about how people are foolishly wearing masks and she is so sick of it. Then she asked me what I have been doing with my days. When I told her I have been making masks she fell silent for a minute. But, did that stop her, NO!!! She went on and on and gave me her point of view over and over again. I barely got a word in edge wise. She then asked if I wanted a part-time private duty job that would be in the evening. I quickly said NOPE!! The call was clearly to find out if I would like the job. Thankfully I got to cut the conversation off because Little Miss needed my attention. She said she would stay in touch. I told her that I would as well. But, I am doubtful I will often call or text. Sometimes, it is best to distance yourself from overbearing people. Less stress is best.

Glad you cut the conversation short. You can't win with people like that.

I am hoping that she doesn't call back again. It had been over 8 months since I last spoke to her. Was actually surprised that she called me.

@DianneN and when I told her that I was making masks, she didn't know what to say. I believe she thought I would side with her ideas of not wearing a mask. Surprise!

@ElusiveButterfly She had a purpose in called you, but spewed her ridiculous beliefs on you. I would tell her that I don't want to hear them and change the subject. I guess we all know who she will be voting for.

She is definitely a hard person to like and very opinionated. I really don't need that in my life.

I think you made the right decision on that one! Thankfully you had a way out of that conversation or she could have just gone on and on about stuff you probably didn't care to talk about.

Even when I was trying to end the conversation she kept rambling. I am feeling as if I just need to cut her off entirely. But, the good person I am doesn't want to do that. I try to find the good in everyone and focus on what I like about them. This one is a hard sell though.

@ElusiveButterfly So just do the bare minimum to keep the friendship going. That way, you don't go out of your way to encourage her in her ramblings, but at the same time you do the polite thing and maintain the friendship.

Stressful times like these can have a real impact on relationships, particularly when such controversial issues are all around us.

Far before this pandemic I noted how she was so very outspoken. You never got a word in edgewise and the conversation always came back to politics.

@JudyEv I am stepping away from the friendship. If she does call, I will answer, but keep it brief and let her know as soon as she starts on the political crap that I'd rather not discuss it.

@ElusiveButterfly I might be letting sleeping dogs lie. I really don't like discussing politics. It's all just too complicated.

It's good to be able to keep in touch with friends. But if something that needs to be cut off, it has to.

@Adie04 she would stop and realize that I had stopped listening and would change the direction of the conversation, but was right back at it in the next breath.

@ElusiveButterfly some people are like that. I knew one person has similar attitude like your friend, but I will step out of the conversation if she's already don't want to lose on the conversation.

That would not be a pleasant phone call at all. I’m the opposite I hate seeing others without masks. I bought masks from my children’s aunt and the ear straps are to long. I will have to take time to cut them and restitch them.

The ear loops I use are made from loom loops that you make pot holders with. They are soft and if they stretchy out I advise to put a small knot in them or stitch them to length. I do not care for elastic because of skin irritation.

@ElusiveButterfly interesting I don’t have any of those loom loops anymore but that’s neat they don’t bother the ears. I put a small knot in the ears on my sons masks so the mask will fit better.

She even said that a lot of people that don't like her for the very fact that she speaks her mind. I guess that is true. I tried to casually say that I didn't talk politics, even told her a couple of times that I don't care to talk about politics and she still kept rambling.

@ElusiveButterfly Those people are so annoying, they cannot understand that if someone says "I do not want to talk politics", that means STOP talking politics.
