I think the owner of this cafe likes accordions

I wrote recently about driving along the Rhine river in Germany. We travelled on both sides of it and called into some of the little towns along its banks. Some of these were geared for the many tourists who travel on the cruise ships that go up and down the Rhine. MyLotter Dianne (@DianneN) is one of those fortunate people who have travelled in this way. In one of the restaurants, the décor was very intriguing. The owner was obviously very much into accordions and there were many hanging from the roof and the walls. Although the top right-hand photo in the collage is very hazy, most of the photos on the wall feature accordion players. We came across a number of accordion players in our travels. It’s a very popular instrument on the continent. Accordions are sometimes called 'squeeze-boxes' or at least they used to be.

I thought it was in France, they love accordions there. I see that @xFiacre knows.

@JudyEv I would have never imagined that they were popular in India, well may be the small round ones, I am remembering the movie Alladin.

Thanks for the mention. I have an Italian friend who plays the accordion and have noticed them being more popular in Europe than here in the US. Hubs and I enjoyed the accordion music while dining in restaurants in Germany. Terrific photos!

Thanks. We came across them quite often. By the end of the trip, we'd just about stopped remarking on them.

Oh wow, how kool. I'll bet dad never saw those, I wouldn't remember because I was too young to care.

Or dad might not have been there either @JudyEv I really don't know where we went I just know we took little excursions to see different things, most of which I had no interest in. I was mostly about 7 or 8 at the time.

@judyev That’s the kind of café decor I like, a sprawl of old stuff the colonised the walls with no real order to it. I like accordions being played so long as they are over there somewhere and they stop after a couple of times. Very French.

So true, very French. My mom was born in an Italian city where French dominated for years, they love accordions in her city (Modena).

@xFiacre @LadyDuck I did feel a strong urge to close them up and not leave them gaping open. Our son (plays double bass, mostly jazz, lives in Ireland) accompanied an accordion player at concerts in France. We expressed surprise that anyone would turn up to an accordion concert but he assured us they had good crowds.

It's interesting to see how people decorate their establishments. You get to learn a bit about the person and people in the area. I love your collage.

My baby brother took accordian lessons. He was never really good at it, they are a bit cumbersome for a child to handle to learn. I like that decor, its unique.

In my teenage years, I had a 120 bass accordion but I found it very heavy and my shoulders would ache after a short time.

Accordions were very popular in the 50's till the 70's. They have been used as a prop and even played in many old Hindi ( Indian) movies. Now it's very rare to find anyone playing the accordion. Attached photo of the late Indian actor Raj Kapoor playing the Accordion in a Hindi movie.
