Never a Dull Moment!

Where the heck is the key with the red silk tassel that always remains in our curio cabinet? ALWAYS! Today I decided to polish the silver and remove some items that are way too crowded in the curio cabinet. Hubby and I looked all over for the key that always remains in the lock, but to no avail. Did I mention that it always remained in the lock? We deduced that only one of my grandkids could have taken it when they last visited and probably our grandson. We have no proof. Rather than confront him now via text or phone, since he’s busy with online school, we called our decorator. She will try to obtain another key if possible. If not, we will need a locksmith. However, it will be a long time before I would let one into our home. We should know by Friday. One way or the other, we will have to confront our grandson and granddaughter.

Why should your grandson have taken the key? Have you checked under it? May be it has fallen. This is surely annoying.

The first thing I did was check under it. I even checked the pockets of the clothes I wore when I last dusted, what I wore when they came over, and inside the washing machine and dryer. He loves interesting things including my gemstones. I'm sick over this.

@DianneN I am so sorry. I thought you would have checked. I also check inside the pockets when I cannot find a key. My husband could not find his keys yesterday, I checked everywhere, they were in side the car. I am sure you are sick over this, it's not nice to check your things, he must learn not to touch your things when he visits.

@LadyDuck You're right. It was during the day that I let them choose soaps to bring home. I will investigate this further.

@lovinangelsinstead21 That's what I thought, but my granddaughter told me they didn't play with the key. Still a huge mystery.

Yes, they happen. I just hope the decorator can locate one that fits. I don't expect my grandson to admit he has it IF he does. He may already be ashamed of himself. Next time he visits, it may miraculously appear.

Thanks for understanding. Your situation turned out so well. I have no choice but to use a key or ruin the entire curio cabinet.

Oh my, sounds like maybe one of your grandkids must have been playing around. A beautiful cabinet by the way. Mine is similar.

It has to be one of the kids. I will call and ask if anyone happened to notice where it is, but don't expect an answer. It may suddenly show up on their next visit. Sigh...... Thanks so much! We have great taste!

I texted them a few minutes ago. My granddaughter told me they were not playing with the key. Still haven't heard back from my DIL or grandson. . If anything, it may show up here miraculously the next time the kids are here. Who knows?

I hope you find that key in an unusual place so that you won't have to confront them. True that kids will be kids but why would one of them take that key?

It almost sounds like one of them might be pranking you @DianneN Would your grand son do that? It doesn't really sound like something your grand daughter would do.

The key always remains in the curio, and we have looked everywhere and in everything. Twice! I can only guess why one of the kids would have taken it. It had such a beautiful red and gold silk tassel that took me years to find. Maybe they didn't think I'd miss it. It happened on the day I let them choose soap to bring home. As you said, kids will be kids. None of them have ever taken anything without asking before, so I'm so puzzled, but will try to find out after dinner.

I just texted them all. My son wasn't here that day and clearly had no idea what I was talking about and my granddaughter told me they were not playing with the key and that she misses me. That leaves my DIL and grandson. @rebelann

This is the first time either of them have done this - IF they have. I just don't know who else would have taken the key. No one has been inside our home except them and our younger son's girlfriend who only used our powder room and went back through the kitchen out to the deck.

Oh my gosh . . . that'd be on my mind til its resolved . . . especially since that key is supposed to always be there. It's good that it has a red tassel on it - it makes it easy to spot. But where oh where could it be?! I know kids will sometimes touch stuff and leave it "somewhere" - if that is the case, I hope it is remembered where that "somewhere" could be.

@DianneN They are used to it being there so it should not be that interesting to them. I know you probably did but check on top too. Hope you find it soon. I can just see Doodles sitting in a corner laughing at you looking for his new toy. I know its possible as Bambi is still trying to trip me at times.
