Those Noisy Cicadas

For the last few weeks I have noticed these noisy cicadas making their piercing sounds in the backyard.
Snapped a photo to show you what they look like. The photo is the 17 year cicada in my poplar tree. I remember seeing them often growing up. But the sound did not bother me like it does now. I thought they were cool.
Not sure if what I am hearing is part of the 17 year cicadas that were suppose to emerge from the ground this year or if these are just the annual cicada. Either way they are noisy!
Hopefully they will be gone soon. Their sound is of course to attract a mate.

I can't hear these little creatures from where I am now. Back in the province, I did.

There are efferent types. But yes this particular one is a 17 year cicada. Here is one of many interesting articles about them. And I have seen stories on the news about 2020 being the year for their emergence.

There are 13-year and 17-year cicadas. I did an article on them at one point. I used to love the sound of the cicadas during my summer vacation from school when I would sit on the front porch reading.

@CarolDM I didn't know about the annual ones. That would be a bit much.

Warmer weather seems to bring out a symphony of noise from the insect world. It's much quieter in winter although much colder too

The 17 year ones come in great droves. There are scattered few every year in Tennessee.
