I thought the car didn't like me

The photo was taken at a horse endurance ride two weekends ago. In the top, you can just see the roo in the middle of the photo but Vince got a better one of it from where he was standing. While we were taking photos this weekend, I needed to go back to the caravan for something. I hopped in the car and started it. Vince was standing by the door. As I started to drive off, an alarm light started flicking. We checked the doors and windows but it continued. I hopped out, Vince got in and the flicking stopped. But once I got back in, the flicking began again. As we were in a rush, I drove off. Halfway back to camp I worked out what the problem was. The car keys were in Vince’s pocket. While the keys are nearby, you just push a button to start the car. As long as I didn’t turn the car off, I was safe but if I stopped the engine, I wouldn’t be able to start it again. I left the car running while I got what I wanted and headed back. I was really pleased I worked out what the problem was . Sometimes, improvements and advancements aren’t always a good thing.

I hear you! We've had similar problems with our keys and cars. That is such a beautiful photo!

@JudyEv You must take the keys with you unless you want to leave your car ready for car thieves.

I really don't see the advantage of these types of key systems. Some vehicles take it upon themselves to lock the car for, it seems, whatever reason, and so you need to take the keys with you when you leave it.

It's not always 'better' just because it's new technology.

I've heard about cars that let you start them without inserting the keys but I'm not sure I'd want one.

There is nowhere to insert the key. It's a stupid system if you ask me.

That's an interesting problem to solve. If I get a new car I may be in the soup cause of my lack of ability with technology.

@JudyEv And when you're in control of a big beast like a motor vehicle and in traffic you don't have time to figure out the technology in it.

I think it is a silly system really. It's too easy for something to go wrong.

The joy technology! I have read that this effect can be exploited to steal these type of cars

I didn't like leaving it running much although at the camp everyone there was a friend of sorts. But I wouldn't normally leave a car running and walk away.

@JWMILLER You can come visit, you just have to be willing to put with 14 days quarantine! I haven't been into London proper since the beginning of the year. On a positive note, it looks like we can be looking forward to fairly free travel next summer.

Gorgeous photo. What type of flowers are those? With my key fob, I have to be in the car with it. Funny how they’re different for different cars.

I'm glad I worked it out before I stopped the car back at the caravan. I would have had to find someone to take me back out to get the key.

It was the car that was beeping at me but only because the car-key was in Vince's pocket and too far away from the car itself.
