It's Seems My Ethnicity Has Changed

Ancestry has done another update on their DNA Origins. I am now the most Irish of my siblings. I couldn't wait to call my brother Fran and tell him that now that he is under 50% Irish he can no longer call himself Irish and I am now the Irish Sibling. lol I have no idea how I am 8 % Welsh but on my English grandma's side I have 3 ancestors in the 1800s who I can not trace and I am not sure where they came from. Since my children now are all Scottish as well it would seem that some of them at least are Welsh and Scottish. I am also 5% Norwegian and 2 %Swedish which I have to assume is the Vikings raiding and pillaging in my DNA lol. I am now 59% Irish which is impossible unless someone on that English grandma's side is also Irish. I love this DNA. The Native American does not show in me except in my Miitocondrial DNA but Fran does get the 1% Native American. I got 1% Germanic Europe which makes sense since Johan Becker is one of my ancestors. So I guess I will be wearing a lot of green this St Paddy's Day!!

I am all American and all Russian ancestry, but I still wear green on St. Patrick's Day since visiting Ireland.

It is interesting and once you do you can take the result and place them at other sites if you are interested in seeing relatives, if that isn't your goal then I think ancestry is still the best site for results. I have used others as well. Though I put mine into living DNA because it is supposed to be more England Scotland Ireland centric but it still is mostly all my French Canadian relatives lol

@BelleStarr One side of my family are 100 per cent Scots going back to about 1700. Other side were Russian Jews who moved to England in Victorian times.

I have an Ancestry.com kit, but haven't done it yet. My sister did, and so did my brother-in-law. My BIL is the whitest lineage I have ever seen. There is nothing that stands out in his DNA.

@BelleStarr We are supposed to be 1/8 Native American, but it doesn't show up in my sister's DNA. That made me wonder.

That's so cool! Our kids did their DNA test, but for some reason their small amount of American Indian didn't show up.

It doesn't always, DNA is a crapshoot, my brother Alain and I don't show it but Fran does. I know we have t because of my mitochondrial DNA is C1 which is Native American. That is the straight female line. Our native ancestor was in Mid 1700s

I am disappointed that my Irish is so mixed, I am Irish on both sides that it can't be pinpointed to any particular part of Ireland. I know some people aren't interested and that is fine but I am interested.

seems they'd be 'pdatin' those a bit more oft now, i reckon coz 'f more participation?? one's gotta recall where countries 'ctually were 't diff'rent times to figure out some'f the puzzle. i didn't wish to know, but'd submitted my spit fer crohn's research. jest's suspected, i'm a mutt :) 2.5% native american, 22% french, etc. quite certain that'll continue to be 'pdated coz when i 1st did such, they said no trace 'f native american (seems such goes back to the 1500's - how'n the heck do they figure such??) 'n now 2.5%?? the same with the french'n others. i'm glad ya 'njoy learnin' all this'n passin' such knowledge 'long to the rest 'f the family. yepperz, get out'cher green, gal! thus far i've 1459 dna relatives...

I have many thousands but it's French Canadian 1/4 from my mother and that is the side I am least interested in lol The more participants they get from a given area the more they can include in their updates. Did you do Ancestry or 23 and Me? My native American shows in my mitochondrial DNA. Back farther than great grandparents, it is pretty much a crapshoot which DNA you get. lol

@crazyhorseladycx I got my brother Fran to do the Y and this way we can identify which sept of the Donahues we belong to, It is the Donahues of the Glen. The good news is on my first trip to Ireland I went to the ruined castle at Glen Flesk of the Donahues of the Glen. My people lol

@BelleStarr 'twas a crohn's study with 23&me - they needed 10,000 folks fer the research. quite eye openin', all'f the results. 'xplained lots to many'f my odd hiccups. genetically 't seems i'm quite susceptible to 'em. 'gifts' from mom 'n dad. they keep tellin' me i need to get my dad 'r a brother to contribute to get more 'nfo. uhm, they're passed so that aint gonna happen. which's a tad odd coz most who've done the testin' 't the same place're from my dad's side... a definite crap shoot 'n the more 'tis learnt 'bout genetics, i'm quite certain the muddier such'll 'come, lol. they do say i'm related to marie antoinette...like i'd care 'bout that tasty tidbit?

I haven't had DNA Checked but know I have Scotish in me as we were told growing up that we were descendants of Mary Queen of Scots, along with French royalty. Also there is native American (Creek I am told)

That sounds like many stories I have heard but since Mary Queen of Scot's only son become James I of Great Britain, that would mean you were descended from all the English kings which is possible since many people are but I wonder why they would pick out Mary to remember in your family stories? Families are funny that way. My father told me The Dnahues owned the Lakes of Killarney and that is true and The Donahue Society told me my brother's Y DNA proves we are from the Kingly Donahues so like many others I am a descendent of Irish KIngs. lol I guess I need to get a tiara. lol

My Irish fell to 32 %. No Native DNA but I met a cousin on my moms side who says we're Lumbees. Lumbee is a state but not federally recognized tribe. I think any Native American they did have is too washed out but they've been trying to get federally recognized for years.
