There it is! Yes, there’s my new water heater. Installation, code improvement, new pipes, etc: just under $1800. They say there’s only two certainties in life: death and taxes. Home repairs are also a certainty. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some people are paying $1800 a month for rent! Truthfully, it’s nothing to complain about. The old one lasted twenty six years, which is nearly twice the lifespan of a water heater. Having a new water heater means no grit in the bottom, so the water feels softer. (Seriously! I washed my hair and thought, “What the heck???” because the water was noticeably softer!) I have a “rainy day” fund for emergencies, but I’m hoping I don’t have to bother it. I put it on my “travel” credit card since I’m not planning any long trips until the snow/cold hits. That gives me an extra 3600 points toward a free night, plus (given the way the due date/ statement date falls) two months to work on making payments. Now, if I’d only stay home long enough to enjoy it.....

Being a homeowner is so much fun. All those hidden expenses that we can't show off. Imagine us having two to worry about.

I know. I’d still rather pay $1800 a year on a repair here or there than $1800 a month in rent.

I always pictured it looking a little different than that. But most money does look different. Brakes, batteries, shining lights, tires... Funny how that works. Look at the bright side. If you get 27 years out of THIS one, you're really only parting with $67 a year overall. lol

My water heater is half that size. You have a big water heater.

It's lovely. We will be getting one in the other house soon. They will look at the furnace on Wednesday. I am holding my breath about that one. If they say it needs to be replaced (only 5 years old); I will have a stroke.

Being a homeowner is an expense waiting to happen. I had to get a new water heater after living in my home for a couple of years and freezing my butt off with one that was totally inefficient. Now it's time to get back the branches on the large trees around my house. Again!!!

Did that last year (tree trimming). All in all, though, I’d still rather own than rent.

I never seen this kind of water heater. Maybe big company has it.
