Our Air Fryer is Worth It

I once owned an air fryer, but it is a cheaper and smaller version of what we have right now. It did not work for me and I ended up selling it on eBay. It was also a bad decision because I was not able to set my preference to ship within the US only, so since I offered free shipping I ended up paying more than $100 international shipping fee. I promised to myself that I will never buy an air fryer again. Then late last year, William Sonoma was having their sale and this air fryer which is larger and a touch button kind caught my attention. At first, my husband warned me and teased me that I will be disappointed again. But since they offer free shipping and returns, I decided to give it another go. It was the best idea! I am now able to enjoy crispy fried foods with little to no oil. I can air fry vegetables, shrimp, fish, chicken, beef, even make bread - I have not tried that one yet though. The quality of a product does matter. And there are times that cheaper may not turn out to be as cost saving as what we once thought it would be.

It took me a while to get one because I was also not sold on the idea. But now that I have had a chance to use it for various dishes, I never use the traditional frying pan and cooking oil anymore.

@LadyDuck You're lucky that you were able to bring it back. My first air-fryer purchase was a fail, and I was not able to return it.

@marguicha I bought one and brought it back. I think we love too much traditional cooking.

I am not sure how much it will cost there. But it should be within the price range of microwave ovens. My family lives in the Philippines and I have been telling them to buy one, I'll even pay for it for them just so they can also enjoy fried foods without all the grease from frying it on a regular pan.

@rakski I once tried to cook lumpia by baking it. It was cooked, but it does not have the same crunch as traditional cooking oil fried. I used the air fryer to make some lumpia and it was crunchy. It even turned golden brown like it was deep fried.

@Raine38 I usually use my oven to bake, roast or grill but it would be lovely to have an air fryer

You can make breaded fried chicken and fried fish fillet without oil or make popcorn without oil. Oil and fat is not really that bad though. The real evil is carbs.

I have a very good "convection oven", I tried an air fryer and it does nothing better than my oven. I brought it back.

I never tried a convection oven. I have friends who have counter-top convection ovens and they swear by its ease of use and as an alternative to deep-frying foods. I have long wanted to get one, but I do not have anymore kitchen counter space.

@LadyDuck You got the best one then! We don't have any more space in the kitchen, whether a counter or a wall that can be used to install appliances.

@Raine38 My convection oven is not counter top, it is a built-in wall oven, full size, it's better than the small countertop ovens.

Yes, it does not. However, you can use a cooking spray if you want to add some flavor.

I have had that experience with other things. I am glad you got one that works for you. I do not have an air fryer or an instant pot. Maybe I will sometime. I will keep this in mind.

@KristenH I'm with you there/ I haven't had an instant pot, but I am wanting to try it. I have a crockpot, but it's not as good as Instant pot from what I have been hearing.

That's very true. The same goes for a first-generation product or idea. When you bought your first one, it could've been a first-gen prototype. Now, air frying has become popular, so the products keep improving as long as the demand is there.

That is most likely the case with the first model that I tried. At least now we get to enjoy this much-improved model.

You know I figured air fryers were worth it. Just because of the savings from not having to use oil.

I never even thought of that. Come to think of it ever since we got the air fryer, our cooking oil purchase has gone down considerably.

I've been interested in air fryers for some time, since they are, effectively, just a small fan oven [on steroids!] and most can do other things besides just fry. What is the make and model of the one you have?

@Raine38 That's a make I've never heard of. I just looked it up on Amazon and it has a good rating and the model with the dials (rather than the keypad) looks straightforward and easy to use. After all, temperature and time are all you really need to know to cook anything!
