I Will Use The Crock Pot More

I really enjoy cooking. And being the cook in the house, I have to do it every day. But during the week, you can sometimes just get into a mode of sorts and not feel like cooking. Sometimes you wind up resorting to tried and trues. I make a lot of braises for example. One thing I only recently started doing is buying packages of chicken parmigiana patties, salisbury steaks, and things like that. Something you can just open up and toss into the oven for about an hour and voila. Dinner is served. But it is not really that healthy, and it still costs more than cooking from scratch. As we draw nearer to the colder months I am going to start resorting much more to the crock pot. I have a ton of dishes I can make in it, and it does not take that much time or effort. Plus, it is cheaper and healthier since I control what goes into it and processed foods are just terribly expensive. In the past I rarely used the crock pot. This winter I will use it much more often. Do you use a crock pot a lot? What is your favorite dish to make in the crock pot?

I got s slow cooker last year, but I forget to use it! Since I'm home most days, I can be here to cook things on the stove.

@porwest Well, when you're working full time, a crock pot can make the difference in a delicious meal and one just thrown together or fast food.

I still prefer just straight up cooking. But sometimes it's an issue of time or just being lazy. lol

@1creekgirl That's the beauty of a crock pot for me. I can just toss a bunch of stuff in there and turn it on and it turns into a delicious dinner.

I love to cook and I do it from scratch. That also means almost no cans or precooked food. I use pressure cookers, normal pots, skillets and a crock pot that can be heated over the gas. I donĀ“t have any electric devises except for the water heater.

Oh. That makes things a bit more interesting, the fact that you do not have any electric devices. The joy of the crock pot is I can prepare the meal, turn on the pot, go to work, and come home without even glancing at it and it is done.

I've never used a crockpot in my life. Does your wife not like cooking?

She has just never cooked. Not sure if she does not like it. I think she just does not know how to do it. I have tried to teach her, but she always tells me she just likes my food so she does not need to know how.

We don't have a crockpot but I know they are very versatile and many cooks wouldn't be without one.

Seems almost unheard of. I swear, I don't think there is a single household in America that does not have a crock pot.

@porwest My son's. But, he's 25 and single. So, he will probably get one when he finally finds a wife.

@Chellezhere Hell, when I was single, a crock pot was the only way I could eat. I was not as much the cook back then.

We used to have a crockpot, but we don't anymore. My husband and I rely on the microwave or I'll cook a meal over the stove. I've never been that patient and never wanted to wait hours for a meal to be ready. I however agree, cooking from scratch is much healthier than not.

I love our crockpot. I use it often, especially if I know that I will have a long day at work. I am the official cook in our household. And my husband got spoiled that he seemed to cannot fend for himself in the kitchen anymore without me. Well, he can probably whip something up, but as far as it being healthier or cheaper, meh! I will usually have all the ingredients prep the night before. Then I dump it all in the crock pot the following morning before I leave for work, and set in low. During lunch break, I will run home to eat and check on it. Usually I will leave it on low and by the time we're home from work dinner is served. So far I can only make chili and roast, I just give it different twists by switching up ingredients.

I can feel you. I am also the cook here and I sometimes not in the mood to cook. I am always thankful of having a leftover food. No, I don't have a crock pot. I mostly cook with a wok, frying pan or an oven.

We haven't used the crock pot in decades. I bought an electric pressure cooker; but my husband hasn't used it. :-( I used to love to make beef stew in the crock pot.

I've used pressure cookers from time to time. I never really have seen the point. By the time you get the pressure up and do all the pre-prep... I might as well have just cooked it. lol

I do use a crock pot. I find meats come out much juicier and tender in them. One dish I enjoy is a stew concoction with sausage, potatoes, carrots and peas. Another advantage you just leave it most of the day and let it cook so you not worried about checking on it or overcooking the meal.

I use mine often during the cooler months. Roast is a favorite as well as chicken.

I am much the same way. During the summer months I am mostly outside cooking on the grill. 99% of the time when I do use it, a roast is what goes in there. I do want to experiment a little bit though this year. There are a lot of good crock pot recipes I have been seeing.

I love using ours. I make chicken dinners, chili, soups and roasts in it mostly. It is simple and as you say better for you than buying so much processed foods. I wish you many healthy and yummy meals.
