One Downfall of MyLot

Let me start this off by saying that I absolutely love MyLot, and I think it is an awesome site. It's fun to chat with people about anything and everything and nothing all at the same time.
And when we do that, we get just a little bit of extra money for our time spent.
But there is a drawback, and that is that it is not exactly passive income. In order to keep on making money, we have to continue to produce more and more content, and of course continue to interact.
The drawback is that there is no residual income really on the site. In other words, you will not write a post today that will likely earn you more money tomorrow, and the next day, and a year from now.
Essentially, the value of a post is determined in about a 24-48 hour window. And the maximum money that post will earn will largely be determined in that 24-48 hour window as well.
Most of the time I try to devote the investment of my time into "evergreen" things. In other words, things that will, over time, be done once but continue to earn residually over time.
Ideally, if I am using MyLot as an example, my income should increase based on the total number of posts I write.
But here that is not the case. Again, the real value of a post essentially expires after about 48 hours.
So, if you stop posting, or interacting for even just a day, you will see a significant drop in your earnings, because there is no real residual impact from the activity you engage in today to tomorrow.
It is a downfall. And making this observation is not to discredit or make a complaint about the site. It is instead to make a point I made in another post I wrote not so long ago wherein I said that I was still getting paid from Bubblews, a former site that was similar to this one.
Our aim should be toward making our income from things like this more passive, and more residual. Otherwise the little bit of extra we get from doing it really does not do anything for us over the long term.
If we want to continue to make money from the site, we can do it by of course remaining active and continuing to provide new content, and maintaining our interactions with others on the site. But we can also do it by putting the money away into a savings account or an investment so that the money continues to earn indefinitely over time.
At some point there will be an amount of money that the money already made will generate. And if we really still want the extra little benefit of a little extra money we get from being active here, it is better to spend the proceeds than the principal.
If you make a post today it will provide you a little extra next month when the dollar signs appear around the logo. But if you save or invest the money you make, the post and the interaction will provide an income practically forever. And when the sad day comes that MyLot is not here anymore, you can at least walk away from it knowing that MyLot will still be paying you indirectly long after the last post fades from the Internet.

I don't see myLot as a place for evergreen content. I's intended for those 'what I had for breakfast'-type posts which earn a few cents then get replaced by another 6-7 line post. It's not a content mill - it's a fun site for most people to earn a few bucks although I do know of some on myLot who do very well indeed!

The 'drawback' is that your expectations are different from what myLot offers (or actually ever has offered).
Unfortunately, this is quite a common gripe. Even people who claim to fully understand the earnings algorithm have been seen to complain about it.
Why should anyone expect a 'residual income' or a 'perpetual income' from myLot? Nobody (from myLot) told you that you should and if you believed anyone else then you are - to be frank - a moron!

@porwest I read your post in its entirety. I have a "strong sneaking suspicion" that you either didn't mean to say what you actually said, or that what you actually said was different from what you meant or that you are misinterpreting my reply as an insult.

I was a prior member on Bubblews too until that site crashed and stopped paying. I noticed if I'm gone for a week on here i earn a little bit but not as much when I am active. I try to post a few days a week on here but sometimes life gets busy. I do not rely on this site for my income what i do make I save in my paypal and let it build up.

@JudyEv From time to time I actually recycle some of them, depending on whether or not the topic was relevant, and sometimes because the first go-around did not produce many responses. Sometimes a second run gets more attention for whatever reason.

Agree with your point here.
That is why I save my earnings and keep it until the end of the year and then spend a part of it and invest another part of it accordingly.

If earnings are our goal then your advice is good! I have been here many years and so far I have earned $13.34 and have not cashed in yet but have not been very active as I have others interests and obligations. These days with the virus situation I am here a bit more. I do enjoy the few minutes I am here every day whether I post or just read.

It was interesting how one day last week (might have been Sunday) I had logged onto mylot for the first time that day and I already had about 16 cents earned that day. That usually never happens.
Mylot earnings are just a bonus for having fun, interacting, sharing your thoughts, and sharing about your life... I have to spend many hours here a day to potentially earn much more than the 16-17 cent daily minimum to reach payout at the end of the month. Sometimes just to even reach the daily minimum. It's not really worth it.
My payouts are usually between $5 and $6 though there have been a few times where it was a few bucks more. That's a very small amount and I just transfer that to my bank. And because I don't work that goes toward paying my credit card bill. It's not a big help but every dollar helps.
Maybe I can invest those little amounts but I don't know anything about investing. All I know is a saving account or putting the money into a CD but you probably need a lot of money to open a CD.

Yes, since I stopped posting discussions every day, my income has dropped by 2/3. But that's OK. I'm taking a break from doing research and writing articles for a while. I'll just chat and earn my 1/3 happily.

Oh mate,
I can go away from here for a few days and the earnings still roll in.
I joke you not.
In 4 days I wasn't here I earned 25 cents.

People generally respond to recent posts, top rated etc and all of them are the ones posted in last 48 hours. Sometimes I just take my time to go to some of mylot users profile page and check their old posts and respond to them.
