Has Your Pet Ever Been Totally Fascinated By Something?

In Florida there are quite a number of lizards running around which will run into your home if your not careful. They are also known by the name Gecko (think Geico commercials) and Komodo dragons, but they are officially known as Brown Anoles (Anolis sagrei). When I lived in Florida my cat Spooky became obsessed with staring at these lizards since coming from New Jersey she had never noticed one before. I caught a photo of her staring at one which was attached to our lanai patio screen. As long as that little creature was in sight, Spooky would be glued to that lizard, like a person focused on a murder mystery show or movie. If you notice the post photo and follow my cat's eyes you should be able to make out the lizard. I've also attached a fun video of a dog who spotted a dolphin for the first time and reacted the same way as Spooky did when she laid eyes on that tiny lizard. Hope the link works! So, has your pet ever become obsessed with something or someone? Sources- Microsoft News and Google https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GxuVd_pPOI

Yes. A few years ago there was a ground hog or something that took up residence in the old beat up boat that sits on my property. My dog, Ally, spent hours trying to get to that little animal but this year it was not there anymore.

I guess the groundhog did not appreciate his peaceful residence being interrupted by your dog. Ally made sure no unwelcome guests were going to make a permanent home on your property

Nice picture. I was always fascinated by geckos too when I lived on Guam, so I would look like Spooky on many occasions. Loved the dog and dolphin. Nice picture.

Thanks. When I was in Florida you had to be careful when opening the door. They could not wait to race inside

Never thought of horses getting fixated, maybe sensing danger. Prey is a definite fixation as they hunt like their distant relatives the leopard and tiger. Here is a lizard fun fact: Brown anoles live on average 4–5 years in the wild.

Spooky certainly seems very intrigued with the lizard.

Yes, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Fun fact: These lizards are not native to Florida they come from the Caribbean but their population expanded when introduced to the state.

Yes, cats and dogs usually have a dislike for each other. You've heard the phrase "fighting like cats and dogs." That became the meaning for two people who argue a lot or in a very forceful and angry way. That's one lucky frog. If you had a cat I bet the frog would not be so lucky

Pretty much anything that moves, in particular squirrels and moths.

Moths would definitely get a cats attention. My cat would make a chirping type noise when she spotted a squirrel or bird from her window perch. She caught a mouse once letting out the weirdest meow. Spooky could not wait to show us her catch

I think my cats would be fascinated with anything that move. You move, we attack - that's their motto. Even my feet.

Ha, ha. Yes cats like their Tiger cousins are on the prowl. Their reaction is to attack... My cat would chase a moving string all day long, lol.

My dog loved to scratch the door. It seems like his favourite activities which we are trying to get him to stop but failed.

I have no pets, the two cats of two different neighbors follow me in the garden all the time I am out, I love them both. They do not stare at lizards, they try to catch them, so I am often fighting to save the poor little things.

@dgobucks226 Cats are hunters, I saved many lizards and birds the past summer. Right now it's getting colder, the cats stay inside their houses.

I think my cat was staring at that lizard wondering how she could catch them too. My friends cats definitely had the hunting instinct of her distant cousin the tiger and leopard. They hunted mice, squirrels and birds.

We used to have a cat who would stand about six feet away from the corner of our lounge and hiss at the wall. There was nothing there but she did it on a regular basis

Like my cat's name that's pretty "Spooky." Maybe she saw a ghost or some supernatural vision?

All of the time. I live in Florida, and no matter what the animal, my cats would find it fun to watch. A few years ago, before we bought our house, a snake somehow got into our apartment, unnoticed by us. I remember it was around 2 in the morning, and I noticed my late cat, Precious, playing with something. I kept hearing a sound, like a quiet thud. Turned out, it'd been the snake. The sound, Precious picking it up and dropping it. To this day, I still don't know how I did it, but I got the snake away from him, and back outside where it belonged. I still don't know if the animal could've been poisonous, but I am glad Precious and I didn't get bit.
